Mike's neverending Honduh Del Sol build. Not mobile friendly

I’ll post up details of my setup and what i’ve learned in here when I get a chance.

shh, don’t ruin the ending. :stuck_out_tongue:

check out my little project with the “destroyed” hood:

Not done yet, but shit… That looks good so far

turns out the Mocal thermostat/sandwich plate I thought was so cool cracked in half yesterday… luckly I noticed the oil pressure drop and investigated.

This car hates me

obviously a problem with the fittings. I assumed i over torqued the fittings but when I talked to the company i bought it from i found they had added this to the listing:

We strongly recommend the use of AN Male to BSP Male unions. These unions come by the pair and include the 1/2" Dowty seal. This is the proper fitting to use with any Mocal Sandwich plate.
Use of a NPT fitting is not recommended on Mocal plates. Damage to plate or leaks may occur.

would have been useful information before.

I am so far from a honda guy but this is a nice build. I would deff do some fwd heaters in it.

great thread!!

I noticed the engine is still in the front. I think it’s about time you put it where Honda should have put it.

was originally a lip for another type of car. I was able to pick up this one up with the ABS shattered in a few spots. Fixed it up best I could and retrofitted it to my bumper.

That splitter is insignificant. You have more than enough skill to put that engine in its proper place. DO IT.

all in due time.

Finally figured this out.

All four wheels are stamped with 41 which is the offset that I was told they all were. However, two of them are actually the 35mm offset.

Turns out I can use this to my advantage. to my advantage since the rear tires slightly rubbed on the outside (I fixed this by raising the car a bit) and the fronts rubbed at full lock on the frame… well when I say the fronts and the rears I mean one front and one rear. Just by taking advantage of the offsets I was able to fix both issues.

proof that they each say 41 (the only other offset that the 15"s are offered in is 31)

looks like a great build, any track times yet?

nope, and there won’t be any of the type your asking about.

some more recent pics of my car as I put it away in my rented garage for winter, some just for my own reference for the upcoming winter projects:

Ready for the off season:

After a mockup mid summer I found that my 4 piston willwood calipers and 11" rotor kit won’t fit on the car under the wheels . The solution was to buy a mounting kit and calipers from a GSR:

Need to finish drilling this out:

Now its time to pickup a new master cylinder

Awesome! Keep the updates coming

legit honda builds are so few and far between… good work.

 Clean car

I have been spending most of my time on the del sol parts car I bought and am stripping for parts, but this means that I now have lots of spares and some new upgrades like electric locking doors and a wiring harness to fix up the mess that I keep trying to patch up.

I did pick up another “mugen style” front, new black housing one piece headlights, and I started putting my interior back to black.

I had painted the stock grey/black interior black with red accents a while ago and the “accents” have gone out of style. Since I picked up this wheel last year:

http://www.z1auto.com/images/personalgrintasuede.bmp

and did a similar red stitch shift boot I decided that I would do the door handles and vents in a matte black and what was originally grey in suede to match the wheel.

This gives you an idea of the OEM interior colors:

The top of the door panels were gray the color wrapped around the back of the car everything even with them and up. The A pillars, visors, and roof were all in the same gray.

Pics of the door panels redone:

process was pretty simple. The top panels were held to the bottom with one screw and a dozen plastic rivets. For the first door I drilled out the rivets and put normal screws into what was left of the bottom of the rivets to reattach them. This turned out not to be ideal since I had drilled too deep on some of them. On the second door panel I used a dremmel and just ground off the top of the rivets, this worked much better. I cleaned off the top with alcohol then sprayed it with the 3M super 90 adhesive, cut the faux suede (year its fake) to size and sprayed the back of it as well. Put the two together and pulled over the corners as tight as possible.

Turned out pretty well.

Parts car is done for.

At this point the winter modifications and ideas started snow balling. I officially committed to entering Redline Time Attack. The real question is which class to go in, street or modified. The car as it sits in the above picture is put into modified for only two reasons, no cat. converter, and R compound tires with a lower treadwear than 125. I eventually settled on making even more major modifications over the winter to allow me to race in street class and be extremely competitive. Other modifications would simply improve the efficiency of my current engine setup (and cooling) as well as simplifying the existing arrangements of components.
