Unless GM sells them they won’t get any better

I think that Solstice is great.

Something different indeed, and that thing goes.

The unfortunate part is that I read that article Super Street did on that car also…and the amount of $$$ that must have gone into that car to make it drift-able…

…none of us could foot.

So A+ for effort…F- for reality : (

I don’t think any of the D-sport grade cars are any different. You wouldn’t expect someone who does the occasional track day to be able to afford an F1 car, so I don’t think we can blame those guys for building a straight out race car such as they did.

Btw, GM’s quality has been way way up lately. They actually have the JD Power award for best North American auto factory in Ontario as well.

says alot when hyundai s better in jd powers book though for initial quality
correct me if i am wrong…please

True but Hyundai has some good quality cars out lately also…they’re just family cars guys like us wouldnt probably ever touch.

Lots of the D-Sport cars are affordable…S13, 180sx’s, FD3S’s are all affordable to us…and with some simple, and not so costly mod’s, they can all be drifting in no time.

The unfortunate part is that I read that article Super Street did on that car also…and the amount of $$$ that must have gone into that car to make it drift-able…

I don’t think the reason they put so much money into the car was to make it drift-able. They put that much money into the car so that it would be able to compete in the series. If you look at the amount of money that other formula drift teams put into their cars its just as much. You could probably take a solstice off the showroom floor and put minor upgrades on it and go drifting, it just wouldn’t be able to compete with pro cars.

we will see how the solstice does and if Millen can stay competitive with it … just like when The Viper gets ditched for the Charger by Hubinette …

A solstice costs what? 25-30K? with minor upgrade you could be looking at what 35K about?

…where-as 10K can buy you an upgraded, ready to drift 180sx…

…about a 20K difference…I think there’s reason in that.

When was the last time you saw a 10 thousand dollar S13 in the top 16 at a Formula D event?

Never, but thats not the debate here.

The debate is that for the $$ you’d spend on a Solstice…you could spend roughly a 1/3 and have a 180sx doing the same if not more.

How isnt it? Its not Millen spending the money on the car. Its Pontiac. Regardless of whether its Pontiac, Nissan, Yugo…
If its their car and they’re sponsoring theyll want it to be new, not 15 years old.

Because they would rather have people buying their new cars and be making money than people buying old cars and not be making money. Not that pontiac has any old drift cars, but just in general.
But yes, on the other hand, we all know older japanese cars are cheaper to drift.

right, just like millen updates his car, hubinette does, also all of the boys in japan do it on the regular basis. its just in japan they get more choice, when here we see mostly FF.

You’re off track here…Im not arguing that there was anything wrong with putting that cash into a Solstice…read my initial post…I like the car!

Im just saying that there are cars out there that drift fairly well that DONT cost that much money.

…that’s the argument.

I guess.

the Solstice was out about 3 times this year. they still have GM techs coming out to the events getting things dialed in properly, and running right. When we were at SEMA, the car was overheating in only 18*C weather.

i think the Solstice is a nice choice of vehicle, only that it needs a real powerplant like an LS6 to be as reliable and competitive as the viper and mustang.
