Mosport On Saturday (leave this thread for a few days)

He broke a fender roller doing it, pretty sure a hammer was used somewhere in there…

Yeah we were all over the place… next time I’ll make sure to introduce myself.

Xiropidis, the red and white scirrocco, broke an axel in the enduro. He is currently leading Sasha’s class. We thought it was his turbo, but apparently axels make a hell of a pop when they go.

Not a problem one bit I could tell things were a bit hectic.

I was under the impression there are no more races this season - if I can find another excuse to go hang out at Mosport for another day, count me in. Next time I’ll be more prepared, I planned to be sitting on a lame bench with a thousand other people - hiking for 30 minutes to get an amazing view of passing/drafting/high-speeds on the back straight was well worth it. I got poop on my shoes though :frowning:

Also, According to the schedule/program they gave us it appeared that Sasha was 2nd overall in his class for points. Where does he stand after that last race?

Yea, I have 255’s on the back of my s13, could probably put a 265 on there if I’m lucky. I hate my offsets though, there’s a ton of room between the tire and the coilovers still and its really close to the fender (not pulled, only rolled). I know better for next time, I’d like to do 275 minimum on the rear but I still cant compete with sashas dirty huge 305/275’s. My jaw dropped when I saw that.

hahaha thanks dude

yea my tires are the only thing that keeps me competitive out there. Used tires + D2’s + 3000lbs? you must be joking. But if they are large enough then it works out! If i had to run on skinny 235’s like andrew does (lexus IS300) i would be a lot slower for sure.

I was second in points but i got DQ’d in that race unfortunatly. A yellow flag was drawn at the exit of corner 5. A lot of dudes ahead REALLY slowed down and by the time i figured out what was up I had already passed 2 of them. It was a yellow. Oh shit. Well in ontario if you pass under a yellow you are excluded from that races’ results. Now normally that means you lose 100points in a 200point weekend (if you’re 1st), but this weekend was a double points weekend, and with all the points going down in 1 race, thats 400 points +1point per lap down the drain. Yes 500 points goodbye.

Luckilly 3rd place guy ray in his BMW didnt run teh enduro, so i should still be ok for 3rd place, and gunter now has 2nd in his camero (the very guy who decides whether or not i can appeal my penalty)

I did however get 10points for qualifying first. Yay?

It was stupid though, i should have seen the flag i guess or at least known right away that people were slowing down due to a yellow. But i didnt. I was just focused on this pack of like 5-6 cars i was closing on at a speed differential of easy 50km/h

Gah, damn that sucks.

I could imagine it being difficult to always keep an eye for those flags though, I was watching one of the flag guys for a while and I’m almost certain most of the drivers didnt even notice him, he was hardly even showing the damn thing. On top of that, I’m sure the drivers have more important things than looking out for flagsmen on their minds.

Regardless of anything that happened, I’m still pissed that I didn’t know Mosport was so awesome

Is there any other events going on this year? I need to go back, I want to hike a little further next time to get a better view of the straight.

By the way, I think I got at least one good vid of Sandra blowing fire. I’m just waiting on dustin to rip them off of his camera and I’ll host and post them here.

The flags are one of the most important things we have to watch for, it lets us know what is going on around us that we can’t see. We only have our mirrors, with a Hans device you can’t turn your head much more than just enough to see your side mirrors. For example, I as battling with a blue Civic for awhile, I couldn’t get him on the straights so I had to outbrake him in a corner (5a…twice) but I had to keep my eye on the flags to tell if faster traffic was coming. I’m sure Sasha would be p****d if I pulled out in front of him after not seeing a blue flag. The double yellow is even more critical as it usually mean there is safety crews on track. Or something very serious. The previous weekend A BMW didn’t see a double yellow flag and ran into the back of a Porsche that had slowed after seeing the double yellow on the back straight, I didn’t see the accident but apparantly the Porsche almost made it over the Armco.
That being said, all drivers either have or will miss flags, theres alot going on on the track and it is hard sometimes to have your eyes on three or more things at once. It happens, it’s unfortunate, but nobody got hurt. Just remember Sasha, the next time I don’t see a blue flag when you are coming up on me, you can’t get mad

Celebration is the next weekend Sept. 30 - Oct.1, tickets as usual are free.

Sorry for the noobness… but what are the blue flags for… I couldn’t figure it out. It looked like the flag man was tring to only show it to certain cars?

Slower cars get blue flagged. Means they have to let faster cars behind pass, also means you have someone coming up fast behind you.

Andrew.

Ahhh… makes sense…

so are there anymore mosport events this year?

I can’t wait to go back!

Not quite true, it is simply a warning that faster cars are coming…held blue flag - fast cars are coming, waved blue flag - faster cars are right behind you. You do not have to ‘let’ the faster car by, it is still the faster cars responsibility to pass safely. On the back straight it usually makes sense to make sure you stay out of the way. But the car in front always sticks to the line. Faster car must go around. If you are entering the corner and the slower car in front has the line, the faster car can either go around the outside to make the pass, or wait for the straight to make the pass. The slower car does not have to give up the line, and usually shouldn’t, his actions should be predictable to the overtaking car, if you do drive offline, point the overtaking car to where you want him to make the pass. Sasha did this for me when I came up on him in turn 8 a couple of races ago, he stayed wide and pointed me inside, so I new exactly what he was going to do. The last thing an overtaking car want to see, when comitted to an inside pass, is the other car suddenly cutting in on him because he didn’t see you.

Here are a few pics - Unfortunately the camera started to die pretty quickly so I tried not to use it too much in order to get a few videos on there. Most of them turned out blurry also, it’s not easy to get fast action shots with a point-and-shoot in automatic mode.

Higher resolution and quality pics are available as well, just take the /800/ out of the URL and use the same filename.

Celebration is a regional race weekend, the schedule should be up soon, but TGTC and GT sprints will be running and likely Formula Libre and the Can-Am cup sponsored by Formula car Magazine for the 1600’s
It’s the final and usually biggest weekend of the year.

Very cool.

Were you running in the Enduro with Sasha? Which of the 62 sentras on the track was yours? When I first got there and noticed a sentra I was thinking “Hey thats probably Sentra SE-R!” then I drove past another… and another… and another… and … you get the point.

I was in the silver 200SX #200.

Awesome, I guessed right!

How did you do, I didn’t notice.

Just checked through my pics, this is the only one I have of your car and it sucks :-/

http://jammin.jshost.ca/mosport-09-16-06/IMG_0075.jpg

Did you bump the yellow porsche right before it spun out and got hit by the Escort?? Or was that a different sentra??

That was our car but I wasn’t in it. Did you see what happened? Vic told me the Porsche cut in on him as he was folowing the white Sentra past the Porsche? There is a series of pics in the ‘whoops’ section here…
http://70.24.208.3/track_gallery/CASC-OR%20Events/2006-Sept%20BEMC/frame.html

but the white Sentra and Vic were past by the time the pics were snapped.

we did a second pit stop because we weren’t sure how long our car would last on a tank, turns out we could have gone with a one stopper, we ended up 21st (just finishing is good if you saw all the cars parked out on track) but we could have been in front of the Sentras overall with one stop…about 12th…oh well we needed to play it safe in the championship anyways and we beat the guys we needed to beat.

Good stuff, i agree that even lasting the race is a feat in itself.
