MP3 file help. Mac

Two of my friends have a bunch of music one has windows one has a mac, I can’t seem to copy the files off the mac onto my external.
What am I doing wrong besides sucking at life?

To natively write on both OS X and Windows, you need the drive to be FAT formatted. Open up disk utility, and format the drive as FAT.

Or you can install one of the several NTFS drivers available…

I’ve always had good luck with Tuxera: http://www.tuxera.com/products/tuxera-ntfs-for-mac/

It’s commercial, but there’s a trial period; it should be fine if you’re just transferring some music over once.

This but you are limited to transferring ~4 GB at a time with FAT compared to NTFS

I assumed he wouldn’t have a issue with that limit, seeing that he intends on transferring MP3’s…
But yes, you cant transfer >4GB files, such as a .ISO of a game you torrented or something.

The NTFS drivers for OS X can be a bit tricky sometimes, its just easier to use a natively supported format.

OS X can write NTFS as well using Macfuse

TuxeraNTFS

Install it on your Mac and it will allow you to access your hard drive.
