Music making program

Okay, I know this has been discussed before. I am looking for the easiest out there that someone here has used before. I am looking for a program that I can split files, slow or speed up tempo, incorporate another song while the original is playing etc…

i have fruityloops, and it is not good for that, scratch that off the list… I want to do the exact same things you listed in this thread:

I have posted before that I use Guitar Tracks Pro. No registration so it’s a free install and a powerful recording/editing software. Not as powerful as say…Cubase but much easier to work with.

I’ve got the CD so lemme know.

Looks cool! I would be interested in trying it out.

let me know how it works out.

Cool edit pro, was great for splitting and viewing files.

audacity, i heard has GREAT functionality and free… Of course all software now a days is free, in my eyes.

In terms of changing tempos… It takes a lot, I mean a lot to change the tempo of the song with out changing the pitch, and timbre. High end programs will do this… I don’t know of any easily available programs… Things like:

Pro Tools, I know can.

Cool edit, cannot. So in terms of beat matching… Wait til Darkkstar, or dj heat come in… they should know

I have Adobe Audition 1.5 and 2.0. This is a whole lot of program but looks “pretty” We shall see how this works out.

ableton live is the best program for this.

it’s main selling point is the fact it treats audio like elastic, and can timestretch (it calls it ‘warping’) very easily. in fact, the program is pretty much based around time stretching. it’s rewire friendly and all that jazz, but it’s also very simple to use. the built in tutorials are pretty good too, considering most programs have a help file that sucks balls.

it’s second main selling point is the fact it’s made for use live, hence why it’s called ableton live. a lot of electronic producers are using this to dj live, and with midi controllers re-create their songs live with flavor.

regardless i can go on forever why it’s one of the best programs out there. go check it out

Downloading the demo…Thanks!!!

no problem. most of the dudes I’ve worked with when it comes to DJing or electronic music use this shit on a regular basis. i have faith if you put a few hours in you will be sold on it as well.

I use Sony Soundforge for music editing. Of course I am sure there are a billion better programs, but hey it works.

Soundforge is for mastering/compressing MP3s, not mix two songs into one or any creative work.

audacity is a great program IMO… and it’s open source which means you can pretty much use it free for whatever you want, without worrying about any possible legal implications
