the difference in mpg should be 1-3 at best. my 328 does like 25-26 on the highway and I’ve yet to get much more than 28 with my A3 which should do better than your 1.8
the luxury part I can agree with… I love my audi interior for a daily.

m3 was doing more like 21 mpg as to where i was getting about 31/32 on my way home from philly…
my friend’s 97 M3 does like 25 highway… I’m jealous of your audi MPG, but then again my car does have some PCV or turbo problem that might be holding it back a bit, I thought 28 was good.

I got 32mpg in my 325i on the highway so there is a pear for you. And the best my 1.8t has gotten is 23mpg, there is a grapefruit.
