My 66 Fairlane project!

Here is my project car. I’ve wanted one forever and finally got it. I just started taking the front end apart to deal with the typical rust issues! Just waiting for a cherry picker to remove the 289. Then I will be able to start patching. My goal is to do the whole front end first. Just a pain because its a true subframe car so I cant take the inner skirts and radiator shroud off unless I drill out the welds. I’m just happy to have one of my dream cars in the garage.

looks good to me.

I want to post some pics from the computer but dont know how! Want to show some progress pics! I will get them on here soon.

nice…my dad has a 66 galaxie…pretty good lookin

Photobucket.com works pretty well…check it out.

Nice car, what is the eng goal with the project???

Bad-ass  Great year for them too. What are your plans for it?

What a piece of crap, why don’t you get a real car like a chevy or something?

j/k can’t wait to see this project progress. Take lots of pics.
btw did you ever get that tank for your welder?

there is a 72 merc on craigslist cheap. with a 429, buy it for the engine / trans and throw it in this

I thought you were serious about the chevy thing. Blood started pumping a bit. I love this car just needs some work but thats the best thing about it. Dont worrry I love old chevies and dodges too. My end goal is lowered with 18x10’s in the rear and 17/18x6’s in the front. I want to put a stroker motor in it 347/408? Just trying to keep it different. If you guys read my post about rims I dont want what everyone else has-- torquethrusts, cragers, drag stars. I was thinkin that the solid chrome rims would be cool because it will be lowered. I think I might go white with a matt black hood. drag style! Any suggestions would be great guys. Oh and I didnt get the tank for the welder yet. Trying to find the cheapest place to rent one for a year. Thanks for any input guys!!

You may not need to remove the whole front end to do the repairs. Drilling out spotwelds is pretty tedious, avoid it at cost :stuck_out_tongue:

I will avoid it! I’ve been reading a lot! Just want to do things right! I dont care how long it takes ya know? Theres no way I am taking that front end off! I was thinking of putting a big block in it. My fathers buddy has a 460 in his I think it go’s 10’s low 11’s. But I would rather have something light weight.

Turbo 302 is what I’ve been considering :tspry:

You should get yourself one of the 427 fiberglass hoods, shaves 60lbs. off the front end:

Progress so far. I am definitely getting the 427 fibreglass hood. I love that one! Need to save up for that! I think they are like $400-500.

nice car…looks like you have alot of work ahead of ya.

That doesn’t look that bad at all. Got any bigger pics of it?

Thats as big as the pics get when I upload them. The car has some rust. More surface rust than anything. A couple tougher issues but it will come together. I love working on this stuff!! Thats the best part!!

What’s fun is everything comes apart with a standard socket set, a Phillips screwdriver, a breaker bar and harsh language :stuck_out_tongue:
