so after almost killing myself a few times with this car I decided to man up and replace the blown crappy KYB shocks with some bilstein sports. they should be here in a few days…
the car would start to slide progressively, and then it felt like somebody pulled the carpet out from under me if any thing even slightly upset the car… not a situation I want to find myself in at the glen.
I still say strip it, cheap used bolt-in cage, MAYBE the few bushings you were looking at and then beat the fuck out of it.

build update:
new bilstein sports struts installed all around. the car is much better to drive now as all 4 kybs that I pulled out were leaking.
this fix did expose that all of my swaybar endlinks are beyond dead and the stock sway bars are not enough.
I also attempted to fix the exhaust leaks, but needed to order more parts which will be here Wednesday… I drove it home from my friend’s place with no exhaust from behind the cat with a big smile, but I was a little deaf by the time I got home.
can’t wait to use the car for the first time at batavia this coming weekend w/ the bmwcca.

since last updating this thread I’ve replaced the rear subframe bushings, gutted the interior, added race seats, added harness bar + harness, added momo wheel, plus some more probably.
sounds good.
im sad that im just seeing this thread now for the first time and none of the photos work anymore 
MPD stopped by and helped me with brakes and harnesses yesterday. I’ve been working like crazy to clean this car up and it’s coming along great!
I removed the painted pinstripe and it was a real pain, but looks way better now.
drove this biatch to work today!
I have a set of cam-lock 6-point harnesses in red I just removed from the SpecE30. They were expired for racing, but ok for other stuff I assume. Want 'em?
