My Haggard VW Beater Build

So a lot of you guys probably saw this thing come up for sale so I snatched it up as a project/winter beater. This is going to be mainly about getting it less shitty and road worthy.

Here are some pics from the sale ad before work started

Props to Choda for towing it to my place because I was not going to drive it as-is. Here is a run down of what it needs/is getting:

Windshield
Rotors and pads
Intake Manifold and EGR cleaning
Heavy interior cleaning

This is just a short list of what is going on. The car is also getting an oil change since there is about have a liter in the car right now…

I started off with the exterior since it was the easy part…Removed some decals, cleaned up some scraps, the usual stuff

There was a solid pound of pine needles in the troughs for the hatch.

whoever owned that should never be allowed to own/drive a car again

Jesus. Did they live in that thing?

was over there helping him wrench, wait till you see the pics…

in.

nice… does the inside smell like crayons?

It prob smells like rotten ass. This is what makes me sick, regardless of what the car is, all vehicles deserve to be taken care of. I can’t stand people who don’t take care of their shit, and park as far away from them as possible (but still end up getting shopping carted - I’m bitter). In for more filth…

You haven’t even seen the worst of it…The smell was definitely something else, sort of liked burnt crayons and ass.
It almost looks like the PO was a smoker with all the shit, but it didn’t smell like it. This is the nasty grime film that was all over the dash

It’s like he never thought to ever clean anything, there was a caked on grime on every surface of the car that I cannot even describe. Believe it or not, it cleaned up realllllll nice. Pictors to follow. Also special thanks to Pirite to help with some wrenching the other day.

I used to LOVE detailing cars like these…no lie.

ewwww. Hope it cleans up good for ya.

It makes you wonder what the previous owner’s living area is like.

Why are you trying to save a VW Beetle?

TDI

This. I don’t give a shit about the car for what it is, but only for what the drivetrain is. I only bought it since the TDI engines don’t die and get retarded great gas mileage. It’s going to be my winter beater so the SRT goes away and doesn’t see snow

Change the timing belt and associated components every 60k and they live forever

looks like they busted a nut on the steering wheel. Did a bunch of people do a soup kitchen in that thing?

I hope you got this cheap and when I mean cheap like he Practically gave it to you… And Luke is a good guy thumbs up for him helping

I got it for 800, it runs a drives and needs about 400 worth of parts which I’ll do the labor for. Exactly what I was looking to spend on a winter beater. The car has 230k on it with the tranny replaced with a factory remanufactured trans at 184k at which point the timing belt and all other associated belts were replaced. The timing belt looks new and has no slack whatsoever. IT should be good to go fro some time

you should go to the previous owners house and be like “THIS IS HOW YOU TAKE CARE OF A CAR YOU USELESS FUCK” make sure you yell too, that’s why i used caps

Ah I didn’t see this was a TDI, I agree with this decision then. I was just confused that you’d want to restore a regular Beetle lol.
