My Haggard VW Beater Build

haha thats not bad at ALL, Ill go take a pic of the few i have in the garage. lol
If you bring the car up to Swiderski after you finish I can shut off EGR and it will keep it from clogging ever again.

Edit: Also go with a hybrid oil pan if you cant find one, I have one in stock its used, but in good condition.

Holy crap on the intake/EGR! Really nice work there! I seriously bet that cleaning is worth the 10mpg I was suspecting. I’m sure this old pile is going to work out just fine for you. Glad it made it into the right hands.

Well said, this is exactly what I’d like to do once I have a garage and funds for a project. But for now it’s just nice to see what others do.

Thanks, I figured I don’t need the car to be road worthy until snow falls so I will just work on it at my own pace

I could use that oil pan, either way I think it needs to be replaced, no point in doing the oil change if it all ends up over the driveway lol

I kicked out my dad’s caddy for the week to work on this, I just have a 15 year old generic tool kit from Sears, it works wonders, but of course takes longer lol

holy shit on that sooted up egr valve, awesome…

This^ . Looking good.

Dan

True fact, I love doing this too…

Yeah this is cool. Interesting to follow.

You didn’t fill her up? No, they were all out, only got diesel, better go to the next one.

:richard opens door:

WHAT’D YOU DO!

this thread is awesome, cleaning up nicely.

Holy doo doo stain. I can only imagine what the inside of PO’s home looks like. Yuck.

Making some very good progress

I’m debating whether or not to sea-foam it, on one hand I’m sure it needs it, but what worries me is the amount of build-up in the cylinder head similar to the intake mani. That will likely all come loose and clear out, but all that shit going into the system at once seems like a good way to kill the car, but at the same time, not getting it out also seems like a good way to kill it

You pulled the manifold off right? How did the inside of the cylinder heads look? the same? I wouldn’t ignore the build-up, if it’s there. It might even be worth pulling the head and bringing to a shop to have it cleaned up. Good way to get a fresh head gasket, timing belt and water pump in the car too.

Currently grappling whether to get a new pan for $70 or spend a few bucks on a bolt to fix the stripped plug…

Interesting project for sure. Subscribed…

Timing belt and water pump should be good to go for a while. I would love to get the head done, but with the EGR delete that is coming the build up will never occur again and over time the deposits in the head should slowly break up and come out…

Yep I deff say this quote once a day!

Dude it looks like someone got in the back of the car butt naked after taking a shit and wiped their asses all over your back seat… But I must say looks great I use to detail cars and I remember using a steamer on dirty seats

Looking so much better already. Fucking A, I should clean out my EGR and intake, I bet it will look as bad/worse.

Is yours the 1.9 engine as well? I’m work man to wrench with lol

Yessm. Let’s wrench together. You’re one up since you just did it. Trade for those shots I promised you. lol
