My S13's journey from 6054 --> H4 --> HID *Pics*

A few points first…

  • Each step up makes a nice improvement!
  • Make sure your HID bulbs are shielded or you use a projector set up
  • I don’t think the S13 H4 housings will ever shield all glare perfectly, although in my set up there is very little (well-shielded bulbs)
  • Still perfecting my headlight aim if they look slightly off

Pardon some of the pics’ quality…just wanted to share so anyone thinking about doing this can have a look.

A better camera shows the colour a little better…

6000K looks quite white with a hint of purple, the pictures don’t really show the colour that well.

I personally am happy with the HID’s and would have it no other way now.

I’m not an HID expert at all, but if any questions i’ll try and help!

jonathan, the car is looking good :).
and so is the HID. doesn’t look blinding which is good.

Nice progression

wow bro ur cars comming along very nicely from the last tiem ive seen you keep up the great work hopefully ill get to see it in person again

see it again? thats nothing until you get a ride in that beast!

Those lights look awesome! How much did it cost for the HID setup?

Hey thanks for all the comments guys…

As for cost, I eBayed an H4 hi/lo 6000K HID kit for $180 to my door - which was fine and dandy and all - but I forgot to ensure the bulbs were shielded (don’t get unshielded in our H4 housing - BAD  ). After buying replacement bulbs (only) for $120-130 (better shielded 6000K bulbs), all was well. So in total around $300-310.

Don’t forget the H4 conversion first though, the Bosch one was $92.99 at the Canadian Tire I went to.

I’d say go with a kit with a good price & proper bulbs or go the projector route.

Looks awesome man! good job jon

Can you take pics of the system under the hood. i really want to see a close up of the bulbs as well. You had purchased aftermarket lenses correct?

Very nice pix, really loving the HID conversion.

No underhood pics at the moment, i’ll try and get some. It’s basically a nest of wiring tucked under the flip-up light and the ballasts are tucked under the rad support/bracing or whatever it’s called…not a work of art but it’s endured rain & snow so far.

With proper H4 bulbs, wiring conversion (came with my kit), and the housings (lenses, which I did replace) it really is plug & play.

Here is what the original kit and unshielded bulbs looked like:

GLARE (as expected)!

Note the wiring is included, even the 3-prong adaptor to plug into your factory harness:

hey, did u use a relay harness to draw initial power from the battery rather than thru the car’s electricals directly? I’m gonna get a projector H4 conversion housing off of ebay since the HID kit i got off my civic is not shielded…

The wiring came completed, so it got power from the factory harness through the 3-prong plug.

I’m not sure those “projector” housings will actually prevent glare or shield the lighting in and of themselves, so beware if your bulbs are still unshielded. You might be better off just changing the bulbs maybe…

a buddy of mine who is on here actually purchased those ebay H4 conversion housings, to put it in simple terms, they suck and are cheap and cheap for the price too.

i have them and they are definitely better than the factory lightning.

Don’t laugh, it’s supposed to be temporary…

Planning on covering them and re-mounting…

hey jonathan.
i suggest you goto the dollar store and grab 2 tiny lunch box and use it cover up the ballast. thats if you’re going to leave the ballast there. unless you’re going to relocated them someplace where water won’t get to.

Mmm blinding.

hmm…yea i’d be alil worried leaving them there…but yea, i’m gonna grab a set ofthe ebay H4 projector housings and see how they look with my HID kit, if there’s too much glare i’ll get shielded bulbs

DTS! It’s about time you got here!

They’re actually not blinding at all, there is practically no glare (although yes, with the housings there is a tiny bit), but granted one of my headlights is slightly out of aim at the moment - but even that one isn’t “blinding”.

Don’t you or didn’t you have a similar set up? Did it work out?
