myth of the bomex.

I got a BoMex spoiler for free.
I’m going to put it on despite its alleged “rice” factor (I’m told I gain 10 points shrug) simply becasue my body man told me about the infamous fastback “Nissian stock spoiler” rust problem.
But i’ve been reading the bomax on-line propaganda and well it makes some sense, I suppose saying “you’ll loose some gas milage, but the downforce will provide better traction at highspeeds” does make sense. But at the same time their performace claims are well…I dunno I think civics cause me to dis-trust this information some how.

my question is

Will you really cut a tenth off your 1/4 mile time becasue of a “race-style” wing?

side question:
Short of buying a spoiler from a junk yard (off of a coupe with 3rd breaklight) to put on the fastback. is the bomex the only way of stoping the rust without no spoiler and plugged holes? can you stop the rust with a stock spoiler?

:-({|= hahahhaha this reminds me of nocwage

So leaving it spoiler-less is not an option? Fix your rust the right way, and if you install a spoiler, make sure water cannot leak in between the spoiler and the hatch where the spoiler is mounted. The reason why the stock spoiler causes rust, is that it’s poorly designed and mounted, and collects water and snow which then leaks in between the spoiler and hatch and causes mucho grande rust.

What can be done to prevent water getting in there???

Apply some silicone around the holes before intallation.

If anything, the spoiler will help the rust become a bigger problem…

And for the record it’s not so much the seals as it is the spoiler being made of foam. It expands and contracts with temp fluctuations thereby exposing areas for moisture to collect.

The coupes are not plagued with this problem b/c they don’t have a foam spoiler.

boMex: The Hamster, The Man, The Myth, The Legend!

Unless you’re turning 200mph 1/4 mile passes the wing won’t do anything.

If your body guy is recommending installing a wing rather than fixing the holes I’d get a new body guy. I don’t get how installing a wing is going to solve any rust issues …

The Bomex wing isn’t going to use the same mounting points, so the holes will have to be plugged anyway.

Plugging two holes is dead simple.

Having no wing at all is pretty much your best insurance for not having wing-related rust issues.

umm no I am going to fix the rust the right way, and not some crap bondo job either, I just don’t want it comming back after a couple of years once i’ve spent the money to have it fixed, thats why mounting the boMex is not going to be a problem, more then anything its good to know my style points will go up but i’ll have to pay the moron tax when my gas milage goes down.

how do you plug holes anyways?

You completely lost me there, I actually don’t understand a word you’re saying.

I’m gonna disagree.

i can feel the drag difference of my wing on and off in a straight line high speed easy

for drag racing i would not have a wing for sure

hummm well if it can be considerd the in thing to do to have a huge race style wing on the back of your car when it does nothing more then make your car look cooler (must be the reason people buy em) then their has to be a point system.

think need for speed underground and style points (or star rating) I’m sure i’ll ge half a star for mounting the bomex.

But you live in Tweed so you’ve got -100 stars already.

Burn!

Don’t worry about Solarian whiterice, he’s been studying to much. Parallel to function is personal opinion. Would you like it installed?

hey how would u go about taking off the stock wing without damaging it further…or even better without damaging it at all

a little off topic but how do i get my door panel off  …its almost off but i dont wanna apply presure to break the damn thing…the only part needed to come off is the p/w controls.

If it will be fixed the right way they you should not worry about rust re-appearing - especially so early down the line…
