the gf just toasted her engine, 98 z24. yesterday it broke on her, AAA towed it to Smeltz In monroeville (near my home). it wouldn’t turn over and i didn’t see it… he ran diagnostics and compresion check… spun bearing, broke rod, blew a hole out the bottom. he’s telling me $2100 for engine and labor.

beats me i’m just relaying things from him to her to me… maybe he got it to turn???.. the usual guy wasn’t in so while i do trust the shop, i’m not liking this guy in particular

OBD change sure was a bitch.
in 95 they still used the 2.3L quad 4, in 96 they changed to the 2.4L Twin Cam. Make sure when you buy a motor you get a 96-98 version, in 99+ they changed a few things. Was the motor run low on oil (major cause of these motors going) was it the #3 bearing that spun (most common cause of engine failure on these motors)?
