Need tech help with a Tool

I have a cherry picker(engine hoist), that I need to modify to be on the safe side of things for the motor going back in. When I removed the motor I noticed on the furtherest extension I was right up against the nose of my monte, and now with the paint being done I want some extra clearence from the nose to be on the safe side. Now I noticed the weight ratings going from great with the least range, to the lowest with the most range,

I want to make the slide piece longer lets say 2-3ft, will this decrease the weight rating seeing the whole piece on metal that slides in will take up all the empty space, and should put some extra welds around the base of the arm, I noticed that they only welded the outer parts not the inners,

any thoughts? :dunno:

or just take the front nose cover and the air box for the rad. or bring the motor in from the side of the car.

make sure the legs are as long, just get tubing to fit it the lenth u need!add wheels & the hook

Yes it will reduce the load rating. There will be a greater load on the arm and also on the hydraulic cylinder. As an estimate, look at how much the load rating decreases at each extension point and reduce the rating for your new length by the same scale factor.

I’m sure there’s a safety factor built into that rating, but the question is how much. Scratching the paint would be bad. Dropping the engine AND scratching the paint would be worse.

I’d do what slowbowtie suggested.
