Why does it seem like every air show has a crash?
Pilot was 80 years old. Not saying it has anything to do with it but it may have been time for him to be retested for his license.

There is no need for a pilot to be 80 years old. AARP insurance doesn’t even cover that crap.

Pilot was 74 and still an active test pilot and stunt pilot; he was in better shape than most people on this messageboard.
Initial cause is a mechanical failure in the tail section; elevator or rudder tab failure.
The people he killed was his family… he hit their VIP box from the reports I’ve read.
My wife woke me up when this came on the news this am… I was supposed to go this year… with VIP access…

Yeah being 80 has nothing to do with his flying ability. As a pilot i can tell you that to keep your license current its not easy. Atleast here in canada you have to keep a valid medical examination ceritificate every year for commercial pilots and the proficiency tests are done in differant stages from every 6 months to every 5 years.
They say something in the empennage (tail section) seperated during flight and that he lost directional control. Not much he can do but observers said he tried to avoid the stands as you could see it in his flight path. Scary stuff. In the last 4 weeks there have been 7 fatal crashes which is quite unusual considering flying is the safest means of transportation.
man i hope that isn’t true.
