The clutch has been slipping since I changed the oil with Mobil1 4T, so I’ve been going easy on it until I can grab some Honda oil, hopefully that solves the issue.
I doubt it will. I bet the clutch slave is junk.
I’ll look into that, thanks.
Ordered a clutch slave rebuild kit and pulled the slave off this weekend. Both seals were really gummy, probably sticking in the bore pretty good. Replaced the seals and the spring and flushed the clutch fluid again, which didn’t seem to stop the clutch from slipping. It’s looking like I’ll have to replace the clutch pack, which is honestly pretty cheap to buy and easy to get out, so it shouldn’t be bad at all to do.
Pulled the clutch plates out last weekend to replace the friction plates, only to find some nice blue steel plates between them. I had already drained the oil, so I had to throw the clutch back in and seal it up while I wait for new steel plates and a gasket to show up. In the mean time I pulled the tank off to install a sintered filter and run an aux power wire from the battery to the front fairing. Also started working on a bracket to mount the CREE LED pods on the front end. Plates should be here by this weekend, hopefully I can get everything buttoned up in time for the weekend. At least I haven’t been missing any riding in this rain.
Check out Buffalo Old Bikes on FB. This would fit right in. We try (barring rain) to hit up Food Truck Tuesday’s. One member has his shop not too far from there . Meet up and cruise. The BMW Riders club usually meets every other Saturday morning. Anyone is welcome.
One mod you might want to consider is to relay your headlight. Many old bikes have much too thin wire for the lamp. Run a heavier wire up, standard auto light relay (Hella or similar). My KLR has that issue. The headlight is more amber then white. Pretty useless for night driving.
Keep up the good work.

Grr, I hate this tablet. Sorry for the repost! Delete at will.
Sweet I’ll check them out, bit of a drive for me though, this thing is not a long distance cruiser, haha.
I’ll look into the headlight better, I do know the low beam is wired with 1 20awg wire and the high beam and ground are each 2 20awg wires. Upgrading to the higher wattage Nokya did help, but it certainly isn’t enough light for the country roads I drive. So hopefully these LEDs will do the trick.
Thanks
New clutch plates showed up this week, finally had a chance to throw everything together today. Also picked up some 15% stronger springs.
The old plates got just a bit hot… haha
After having a close call Friday night with a deer, I decided I needed to get the lights installed this weekend. Picked up a 12V to 24V converter since the LED’s will handle 30V.
Wired and mounted in the front cowl.
Finished the bracket and installed the lights.
Pictures of light output are always useless, but oh well, Low beam
High beam
