2008 Mitsubishi Lancer gets sneak preview in advance of Detroit show reveal
December 11, 2006
The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer is set to make its global debut early next year at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, but Mitsubishi has already taken the wraps off its next generation compact sedan.
As Mitsubishi promised, the new Lancer carries many design elements seen on its Concept X vehicle. Underpinning the car is Mitsubishi’s new global platform that was first used on the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander.
The Lancer will be available in three trims: DE, ES and GTS. Power is supplied by an all-aluminum 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 152 horsepower. California gets a slightly detuned version with an output of 143 horses due to emissions regulations. Transmission options consist of a 5-speed manual and a brand-new CVT in place of a standard automatic. In the top-end GTS trim, the CVT comes equipped with paddle shifters and can be switched to act like a 6-speed automatic.
The new model is slightly bigger than its predecessor, some three inches wider at 69.4 inches and almost four inches taller at 58.7 inches. Wheelbase grows by an inch to 103.7 inches, but overall length is half an inch shorter at 180 inches. The new Lancer puts on quite a few pounds, with curb weight going up by nearly 200 lbs to 2922 in the 5-speed DE and nearly 400 lbs to 3109 in the CVT-equipped GTS.
The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer is set to go on sale early next year. Prices and further details will be announced closer to its on sale date. Stay tuned for more on the new Lancer and all the Detroit show debuts at MotorTrend.com during the show press days, Jan. 7-9, 2007.
Looks likea Mazda 6 meets old Gallant. Overall looks good on the outside. Power seems alright and CVT in entry level is nice. Size is pushing to Altima levels now :3

RedGoober4Life:
Acura TSX!
From the a-pillar back with a Volvo front.
I sure hope the new EVO looks more like the Concept X…
And I thought we were going to see a WRX equivalent to fit between the regular Lancer and the EVO.
Shit on Mitsubishi. I hope they take Chrysler and their stupid, ugly Avenger with them on the way straight to hell.
