New puppies

Well as some of you may know we lost our girl dog Jinxxy to natural causes last June. Then we had to put our Bosworth down just before Xmas as his hips had gotten so bad that he could no longer make it up and down the steps or stand up to use the bathroom on his own. It was a hard decision but his quality of life was nil, and he was in pain.

So my husband could not WAIT to get new puppies, and I wanted to wait, but I caved about a week and 1/2 later. We drove to Effingham, IN on 1/1/08 to get them from the breeders dpmbulldogs.com if anyone is interested. Excellent breeder, very well socialized dogs. They have them all in their house!!! And we are talking about 22 full grown males and females, and about 20 puppies!!! The house is immaculate and doesn’t even smell of dogs imagine that! Great people, I would definitely recommend them if anyone is interested in American Bulldogs that are well socialized and of show quality. You could walk into ANY of the pens and the grown dogs are just as sweet as can be, but the assured us that they take care of the house if threatened, if you know what I mean.

After we picked them up, we made it to Indy before the roads got too too bad to get all the way home, that was an adventure, two puppies in a hotel room the first night LOL! We made it home yesterday despite the SHITTY roads thru IN and OH.

They are American Bulldogs, and the white one with brindle patches is a girl and named Sweetie, the brindle one is a male named Magnum. The breeders already registered them and those are their registered names. (Azrius Red Sweetie and Azrius Red Magnum officially). They are 11 weeks old and rowdy as hell!!! They are also very sweet and have been listening to us pretty good. They already walk on the leash like they know what is going on

The boys are our nephews. We want them to get used to kids and people and other dogs by socializing them early.

Cute pups BTW

Beautiful pups!

Really nice looking dogs. I’m not real familiar with American Bulldogs, how big will they get?

Fucking huge…mu Aunt has one…its 132 lbs

Very adorable. Makes me want about 10 of them!!! Congrats on your new puppies!!

cute dogs

Depends upon their lineage. The father has Johnson lines, the female has standard lines, so it’s hard to tell, although the Dad is typical size for Johnson type, the mom is taller than Standard type.

Our last two the standard female was 75-80 pounds, and Boz our Johnson american bulldog was close to 140 pounds.

For judging purposes, distinctions between an ideal “Standard-type” and an ideal “Johnson-type”
Size: General: Males - 23 to 27 inches at the withers and weigh from 75 to 120 lbs. Females - 21 to 25 inches at the withers, 60 to 90 lbs. The weight should be proportional to size.
[Standard-type: an ideal male should be 23 to 27 inches at the withers and/ weigh from 75 to 110 lbs., females, 21 to 25 inches, 60 to 85 lbs. The weight should be proportional to size.]
[Johnson-type: an ideal male should be 22 to 26 inches at the withers and weigh from 80 to 120 lbs. Females 20 to 24 inches, 60 to 90 lbs.]

Dad “Red” has a head bigger than a basketball. These are pics of Red as a young male. His hind legs are as big around as my thigh now

AKC Champ points 105

Their Mom “Boochie” is tall and lean and has a longer nose. So they will be stocky but tall and have a not so much scrunched up nose as his Dad, medium snout. Best part is their pups don’t seem to drool and don’t shed at all  Best part!!!

NKC Champ points = 5. She had 18 pups and had to have a C-section and get spayed b/c of complications.

A little about the breed

The American Bulldog originated as a catchdog (mostly cattle) and property protection dog, in America’s Southeast. He was not bred to put on threat displays or to look a certain way. But, he did need the right equipment to take care of his real bulldog duties which were confrontational personal and property protection and as a catch dog. He needed to be strong enough to put unruly bulls on the ground and athletic enough to catch hogs that were allowed to free range in a semi-wild state.

General Appearance: The American Bulldog should generate the impression of great strength, agility, endurance and exhibit a well-knit, sturdy, compact frame with the absence of excessive bulk. Males are characteristically larger, heavier boned and more masculine than the bitches. The AB is a white or white and patched (brindle or red) dog. When patched he can range from the traditional pied markings of a patch over one or both eyes or ears, or a patch on the base of the tail, to a large saddle patch and various other patches.

I really like american bulldogs. Nice looking dogs! Gus is turning 1 year old on tues.

Gotta hype on any breed that can claim “Johnson lineage”. Just the name sounds bad-ass.
Truly cool-looking dogs. Congrats.
Now I want another puppy. Sometimes I think I’m running a kennel as it is.
You all are more than welcome to bring 'em to my house to play with my very social dogs anytime. I have a huge fenced yard and a fridge full of beer. You’ve got to worry a little about taking them to dog parks and such until their immune system is fully developed, but at the same time it’s good to socialize them.

:stupid:

You’ve got Weimreiner’s right?

Yeah and whatever else we get suckered in to dog-sitting that week. Lately it’s a German Short Hair pup a few nights a week, and also a black lab over last weekend. Everyone seems to know they can dump off their animals here when they go on vacations, etc. because we (including our dogs) love having them, and they’ve got lots of fenced in area to run. I’ve actually cleared almost an acre of additional land since you’ve been out here and that will be fenced come spring, too.
