The New York Post reported that Cherepanov suffered a heart attack and collapsed on the bench during Avangard Omsk’s game against Vityav Chekhov.
Former Rangers captain Jaromir Jagr had just finished a shift with Cherepanov and was talking to the him when the Russian suddenly collapse
and another one says this…
Avangard Omsk forward Alexei Cherepanov, during the KHL regular season game against Checkov Vityaz, has lost consciousness on the bench.
During a line change the young forward unexpectedly collided with a teammate (Jagr). Soon after the 19-year old hockey player's heart stopped.
In connection with this tragic case the post-game press conference with the head coaches of the teams that played has been cancelled.
Depending on the reality…this story might come into effect. In HS on the baseball team a kid got hit in the chest with a ground ball and his heart stopped. I guess there is like a micro second that if you get hit it can stop your heart during the beat cycle. Pretty scary stuff. Surprised they didnt have a Defib.
This was unbelievably shocking when I heard it announced before the Rangers game last night, really sad to hear. He was the Rangers first round pick in 2007, and at 19? such a shame
this sucks man. a kid on my team played jr’s in michigan, and at a tournament a kid got hit in the chest with the puck (he was wearing shoulder pads) and it hit at just the wrong beat in his heart, and stopped his heart. The rink was getting sued for not having a defibrillator on hand (supposedly there’s a law necessitating this). this was 3 years ago i think he said, but i remember reading about another one of these last year
