Nissan Hardbody sr20det s13 swap

I am currently in the process of putting an s13 sr20 red top in my 94 hardbody and I have just pulled the ka24 out last night. This is my first experience with a Nissan swap and I am looking for some info on this particular swap. I want to put the SR in tonight(hopefully) but I am unsure of what mounts to use and also a little confused about the wiring. If anyone has done this swap or has some good info on it I would greatly appreciate it so that I can at least, get the SR mounted in there if I don’t deal with the wiring right away.

Here are a few links that you should read in detail before attempting the swap. Also, have extra money for stuff you might need that you didn’t initially plan. These links are for the S13, but you should be able to follow most of the steps successfully in a hardbody. Also, I believe the mounts are identical, and you should consider replacing your mounts with Nismo mounts or stiffening them up, assuming they are worn. Prep your SR and do basic things BEFORE putting the motor in, it will be much easier.

Search on FreshAlloy, 240sxforums, NICO etc… You should find plenty of information, wiring diagrams and step by step guides. If you have issues or need parts, give Varun (slipperysilvia) a call, he knows SR’s well and is a great guy to deal with.

Best of luck with your swap, make sure you take me for a spin once it’s done and completed :P.

Keep posting pics, and your progress.

I’m parting mine out… I’ve probably got a few things you might need\want including the custom driveshaft.

What about the mounts how is that spoused to be done?

mounts you need to use the SR brackets but the actual mounts you can use sr or KA

the upper part of the KA/SR motor mounts (brackets with 4 bolts on each side of the block) bolt directly to the truck’s rubber mounts… no custom work needed there. (I dropped an S13 KA complete with 5spd tranny into my other stock 5spd Hardbody with absolutely no work needed on the mounts).

however, the SR’s alternator is in a different location and doesn’t clear the frame of the truck with the above setup… the entire motor needs to be moved forward approx 2" or you can just notch out the passenger side framerail to accommodate the alternator.

so basically i can bolt it up in the stock location but the alternator won’t fit? Also in the pictures of your truck you have the driver side mount on the middle hole and a bracket welded on to the frame why? My truck was also automagic im doing the 5 speed swap

that welded bracket is cuz I moved the engine forward 2" (to clear the alternator).

ok now i understand. but how much does the alternator not clear by? is it worth moving it forward? and do you have a driveshaft if i keep it in the stock location?

Ive got a custom one-piece driveshaft thatll keep the motor/tranny in stock mounting location… I’d say just notch & gusset the frame and use all the stock mounts… done and done.

PM me if you’re interested in the shaft.

So after a LONG night and a lot of firewall smashing the engine is finally mounted! I will post pics. the tranny mount still needs to be fabricated and around the shifter still needs to be cut out properly since I am also doing an automagic to manual, but the shifter is there! Now its time for the wiring. Some info on the wiring would be awsome since i have no clue. I have the full SR harness and the full ka harness that was in the truck. I will keep everyone updated.

I mean SMASHED the firewall!

Any info on wiring?

the alt clears fine…
lots of firewall/tanny tunnel hammering

yeah, I will write a thread on the work that needs to be done for the swap when i get mine running, for all the mini truckers.
