Saratoga Springs woman, 64, dead in Northway bus, car accident

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - New York State Police say a 64-year-old Saratoga Springs woman is dead after a Vermont college tour bus was involved in a collision with two other vehicles on the Northway near Clifton Park late Tuesday morning.

The deceased is said to be a 64-year-old female passenger in the Porsche vehicle which state police say “spun out in front of the bus for no reason” likely causing the crash. There is no word on the victim’s identity.
The driver of the Porsche, a 65-year-old male, also from Saratoga Springs, is in critical but stable condition with multiple fractures at Albany Medical Center.
Four students on the tour bus carrying the St. Michael’s College men’s lacrosse team suffered minor injuries.

A third vehicle, a van-type vehicle was also involved in the crash, police say. The driver was uninjured.

State Police say the tour bus was carrying the men’s lacrosse team consisting of 34 players and three coaches from St. Michael’s College in Vermont. According to a state trooper, the bus was heading from St. Michael’s College to a game on Long Island.
Witnesses tell State Police the accident occurred when the car involved acted as a “catalyst” and spun out on the wet highway and hit the bus. The accident happened just before noon Tuesday.

The bus landed on its side off the road. Crews say the players now are being taken to the Clifton Park Fire Department.
Troopers say the southbound lanes of the Northway between exits 9 and 10, in Saratoga County, are closed due for an undetermined amount of time.
Saint Michael’s College released the following statement:
“As the accident is still under investigation, and may be for a considerable length of time, we cannot comment on any further details at this time. Our attention and resources are committed to supporting our student-athletes and staff members involved in the accident.”
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Officials are looking into all facets of the accident and the weather was rainy and the roadway was wet at the time of the accident.
Officials ask that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact the New York State Police at 518-783-3211 with information on what they witnessed.
DOT recommends the following detour: Take Exit 10, Left On Ushers Road, right on Route 9 Southbound, Right at Route 146 back to I-87.

wow looks like the old men make the same stupid mistakes the young drivers make.

respect the car and the road next time old dude.

i know someone on here knows this guys too

they crazy thing is I went down to CRC to pick up a powder coated roof cap. Left my store at about 11:36. I passed this bus on the northway by exit 13.

I was probably 2-5 minutes ahead of this accident. On the way back I passed the accident some 30 minutes later and it looked bad

RIP to the passenger, but this could have been even worst.

R.I.P…

Is it me or does the porsche not look that bad? Especially for a fatality…

Maybe no seat belt?

RIP. Sad either way.

Guy I work with saw it happen, the bus was in the left lane and veered across all three lanes so it could’ve been 10 times worse. He didn’t see the porche make contact so he thought the bus driver fell asleep or something at first.

what?

commercial type vehicles should all be equipped with dash and reverse facing cams. If not mandated, at least offer an incentive to do so, tax break, registration credit, whatever. To explained stuff like this. When it is your JOB to move alot of people or cargo, one would think the cam would not only keep you from acting dumb, being lazy and making mistakes, more or less keep you focused because “big brother is watching”… it would also help tell the story after the accident. If it wasn’t your fault and it was a hard to prove it wasn’t deal, this would be GOLD for keeping your job, your lifestyle or even your ass out of jail.

RIP to the poor lady.

Cameras are getting more common in trucks. My company has had them for over a year now, waste connections has them as well. They cameras are from a company called Drive cam and they are triggered by “events” such as slamming on the brakes, taking a turn too fast, large bumps set them off ETC. When they go off they save the 8seconds before the event and 4-6 seconds after, the event gets sent to drive cam who reviews it and “scores” the event based on what’s happening in the clip and sends it to our supervisors.

would be awesome as a system to catch a hit-and-run or a vehicle break in as well
