OEM car stereo repair

Anyone recommend a local place for getting an OEM Ford stereo repaired?

Before you suggest, “just get an aftermarket unit”, realize this is in my Expedition and it controls the built in 6 disk changer as well supporting the rear seat controls. I’d rather just get this fixed than lose the existing functionality. Plus it’s a double DIN and many of the aftermarket double DIN units are either real expensive because they have a ton of features I don’t want or look like crap.

It seems like it would be a simple repair. What’s happening is when you turn the volume up it works just fine, but when you turn it down the volume fluctuates between going down and going up. If you spin it enough eventually it does go down but watching the digital bar graph that represents the volume for every 2 clicks it goes down it goes 1.5 back up. I know it’s the knob because it turns down perfectly using the rear seat controls.

It looks exactly like this:

ebay for a replacement?
lifetime?

the one in my xterra does the same thing. Mine works better if you go slow. I don’t want an aftermarket double din because they don’t have removable face-plates either.

I would just go to a junkyard or ebay

make sure its the alpine one so you will have changer controls

^ Well, with the one steve posted it wouldn’t really matter since it’s got it’s own 6 disk changer built in.

Thanks Steve, I put a watch in on that. I’ll see how it’s doing in 2 days.

Syracuse Radio
they charge by a flat fee and are quick with shipping back and forth

most apline units can control the 6-disk factory changers

2000 Expedition. I’ll remove it tonight so I can get a look at what kind of connections it has on the back to start comparing it to the eBay ones. I wouldn’t really care if I lost the rear seat controls but my life really likes the CD changer.

May end up with a 6 disk console mount changer FS soon.

united radio

Crutchfield sells replacement factory radio’s also I believe.

the dealer?

does it really bother you that much? just hit the mute button if you want to turn it down fast and if it doesnt matter take your time

Yeah, if I want to be charged $400 for a repair that will take 4-5 weeks because they mail it out pony express.

While I had it out of the truck tonight to check the style of connectors it had I decided to pull it apart.

BDR says United will have the volume knob so I’m just going to pick one up and replace it myself. It’s only 7 solder points.

not true unless it’s a factory ALPINE 6 disc! Be careful!

junkyard?
