*OFFICIAL* Duff's Cruise Night 2009

how hard it is to go inside, have a beer or two, go back out side for fun and stuff?
its almost like having a beer tent or something.

They should just hand out passes for two free chicken wings forcing people to go inside to get food and drinks…

I would almost chalk the cost of the event up to “cost of doing business”. I’m sure there is a small increase in business those nights, and if nothing else, it’s getting people familiar with your location, they are bound to go back and eat some wings.

If it’s that much of an issue, get someone to sponsor it.

Maybe they pulled in a lot of cash when they served alcohol outside and are trying to get public support for a :tif: issue.

I think they’re being whiney bitches and ruined a good car meet. Not that I went often or anything…

Maybe sell wings / other food outside?

Either way, with those flyers they passed out, they made sure NO ONE is going to show up anymore. They killed it themselves.

Just seems dumb to me, you had dozens, if not into the hundreds of people coming to your business EVERY MONDAY. There has GOT to be a way to capitalize on that…

Serve the beer inside in plastic cups, if you take it outside you risk it yourself?

No, they do it at the warehouse also, beer purchased outside can not go inside, and vise versa. It doesn’t matter if it is in a plastic cup.

Sad to hear, I will place a few phone calls to support this.

They could have just stopped publicizing this cruise and people could still have shown up. Even though they could have taken it off their schedule, people could still “meet” there every Monday.

So if you have to go inside to drink your beer, big deal.

I realize that you’re not supposed to bring beer outside, but what if you do? Is the bar liable or is the person?

Better yet, why not bring the car show into the bar?! LoL

OP sucks anyways.

The bar is liable.

What if you bring your own and drink it out of a brown paper bag?

EDIT:
Yes, they did kill the cruise themselves by saying it’s cancelled. But, they may have done this in an effort to point fingers at the town and piss people off enough to actually call the town and complain. It worked for me anyway. I’m calling.

Why not still have the cruse, serve the beer inside and the food outside :gotme:

“Hi, I’m calling to complain that I can no longer go to a car show cruise night and drink beer.”

Guys, I’m a HUGE fan of beer, dont get me wrong. But promoting drinking at a car event / cruise night, or canceling it because you can’t serve beer is

I can’t really fault OP in this, though from a business point I don’t blame Duffs for riling up the community.

Yah, pretty much.

All you people saying, “I don’t know why they don’t just have it anyway”… did you not read this? That’s right from the owner. Without the liquor he loses money. No business owner is going to continue doing an event that only costs him money.

He still had tons of people coming out to his business each and every Monday. At the very least, it’s good advertising. How much does that sort of advertising cost?

Did Taffy’s have a DJ, prizes or booze when people went there? I guess my real question is, who needs a DJ or booze or prizes? Maybe if everyone just kept going to Duff’s it would still be fun and they actually make money too. Just sayin…

DJ’s are great… …at Polish weddings and techno clubs.

It’s the same people though, and from the sounds of what Lafengas posted they’re not really buying anything but booze.

I’m interested to hear why OP decided not to write the letter, and wonder if people in the town started complaining about drunk driving, street racing or something like that. Doubt we’ll ever hear the town’s side of this though because even if every cruise night attendee calls (they won’t) it’s still not a large enough group to get government to give a shit.

He really didn’t have to promote it much. It got most of it’s advertising by word of mouth. The extra expenses that they had is additional staffing. They still have to have food, drinks, etc on hand. I’m not sure if they paid a DJ or had to buy additional insurance either. But the fact of the matter is, even without alcohol, they would still get a lot of people that would normally not be there on a Monday. They had to sell more wings than their standard night. People probably did go and sit inside at the bar, but it’s not the main draw.

I bet they could have kept it going on if they really wanted to. But just because they can’t serve alcohol outside is a lame reason to cancel a cruise that brings a ton of people that usually wouldn’t be there on a Monday.

I run events, so I have experience in this. Beer is an extra feature of an event, but it is not the draw. I’m sure there is more to the story on why OP only will let them have 3 dates for a beer permit. But blaming OP for the failure of the cruise is weak in my opinion. Have a wing special. Have a beer special when you eat inside. Creative marketing, not finger pointing.

I’m waiting for the day when someone at a cruise night or car show like Tri-Five where they give beer with your admission and there is a bad accident contributed to alcohol. I’ll drink a beer or 2 at Lancaster myself, but will not push it. But some people mix lots of alcohol and driving their show car and something bad will eventually happen.

Pautlers Tuesday cruise gets 250-300 cars EVERY week. And guess what, they don’t serve alcohol, just food and ice cream.
