Why not get oil from here for a turbo?
lol.
that post sucks. wtf car is that? wtf engine?
but really…
there could be a number of reasons…
To start, that particular location may not be able to sustain required cam journal pressure given the additional demand of flux through the newly opened port required for the turbo.
Looks like a great spot
Please post results
I’m asking b/c the gt35r’s have a restrictor built-in, but it does not restrict oil pressure enough. Oil pressure to the center section cannot be more than 40psi. It can easily be in the 80-100 psi on cold start, and 60-80 psi under WOT on a honda engine. I bought a -3 a.n feed line and a restrictor fitting from ATP.com but maybe pressure is low enugh at this point? Plus I think it would be clean…
use the restrictor. If you’re super concerned, install a temporary pressure gauge after the restrictor, before the turbo…
what car?
Its a B18
Im not super concerned, Just asking why you dont see anyone sourcing oil from there.
Maybe I will hook up a gauge and see what we are dealing with there.
if the flux requires that much more demand he might as well swap the flux capacitor while he’s at it…
You can’t just hook up a gauge because the pressure may be proportional to the Qdot. It depends on structure of passages to that point. A ball bearing turbo is unlikely to change the flux much, so it is probably a non-issue, but you have to understand that system pressure may not be consistent between pre-tapped and tapped.
Right. What you’re saying is you don’t know. But thanks anyways! You did add a few possible reasons I will look into!
Thats next!
i’m fairly certain b18ctrb (deni) has his oil feed line from there, or somewhere in that vicinity.

Because there is no oil pressure until the vtec solenoid is operating. You’ll smoke the center section from lack of oil under normal driving conditions (out of vtec). I have seen it happen on numerous customers car. The port that you are referring to is the vtec oil pressure test port.

yes i was going to post dont do it… and deni IIRC has his water line coming out of that area
Why not just use the spot every other turbo honda uses on the back of the block? You can make it clean and the oil pressure is going to be more then enough and that can be solved with your restrictor.
