Does every turbo setup(well N/A to turbo) need a oil restrictor? Mine doesn’t seem to have oil seapage at all. I have noticed a slight valve tapping that wasn’t there before though. Could even be the crack in my manifold(the noise). Anyways…what do you think? My turbo oil feed is right off of the back of the block in a spare plug under the oil filter.
from what I know from the VW world… people always blame the high oil pressure for blowing the seals on the turbo. I personally have never experience this, but thats what i have read. I think ATP sells an oil restrictor
What about bringing oil from the filter houseing? Much cleaner source.
There is no need for an oil restrictor on a honda. A straight line from the main pressure port to the turbo inlet is what you want.
have someone adjust the valves, or if you can. I just adjusted my hatch’s valves b/c they were starting to loosen up. I run a 9500rpm redline, so its more crutial there.
UHHH honda’s run way way way way tooo much oil pressure RUN A ATP OIL RESTRICTOR. Too much pressure will kill the turbo.
PS gearhead anything over 40-45 psi needs a restrictor … honda’s run 20+ more than that at wot
yaeh…
.060 is a good size.
I have been looking for one of these bitches for a while
just shave down a an style fitting and slam a nitrous jet in there to control the oil flow…i do not have any type of restricter on my stuff
I didnt either but started pushing some oil around the seal so I got one…
I’ve never used one before and have had no probs. Thanks for clearing it up though :bigthumb:
all ball bearing turbos need an oil restrictor
I am more worried about my motor NOT getting enough oil than the turbo getting to much…any issues with this? Thanks for the reply’s so far though!
no never heard of this, are you using an oem filter?
what weight are u running, synthetic? help us help u
yea when i was reven my ls motor to 7600 all my valve adjustments where coming loose and i would have 2 rip my valve cover off and tighten them, i did it twice @ flashlight drags…
I am using a fram oil filter(heavy duty or something…) and synthetic mix 5w 30
the restrictor is for the turbo itself, not for ur motor.
high oil pressures can blow out the seals. especially on cheap turbos like cheap turbo.com’s/ ss autochrome specials.
gotta remember, on cold start, you make roughly 5 bar oil pressure. warmed on wot, probably around there too. most turbos want pressure to be around 4 bar iirc.
i allways ran a -4 an feed. still would have high pressure and never blew out a seal. but i know of atleast 10 others who have. so as allways, ur results may vary.
also, good ideal to see where you are getting ur source. i know on a vw motor, oil pressure at head is lower than at the oil filter housing.
lastly, i’d ditch the fram filter. fram filters in general are junk. no offense, but seen them blow up too many times. im kind aleary to even use one on a beater car.
oh yeah, and nitrous jets do work as mentioned.
get an oem filter!
and here check this out
oem from honda you mean…they are the best?
