Ok, mountain bike for the wife, reccomendations?

I wanna buy a mountain bike for my wife as an anniversary gift, she rides on the road probably 60-70% of the time but likes to hit some trails once in a while. Looking to spend around $400 at the most, but looking for somthing light and comfortable. She has a huffy 18 speed from like 1992 or some ish thats a real piece of junk, so pretty much anything will be an upgrade haha. I know some of you guys are into bikes, so give me reccomendations if you would please!!

ive always ridden trek and i like them. u can pick up a decent one for 400 at like berts with an aluminum frame and decent components. prob like a trek 3 or 4 series for mountain bikes im not sure about road bikes

Does she care if it is a man / girl styled bike? There are a lot more men’s bikes it seems and I’m not sure if they offer them in a woman’s frame.

or she could stay in the kitchen where she belongs.
problem solved :fry:

really though,
ive got a trek and love it. been on same trails in some of the parks as well as done some street riding with it and its handled both and i had no problem keeping up with my cousin who has a $800+ bike.

She stays in the kitchen and does a good job, so, id like to keep her busy/active, just as she is now haha

Edit: I think this specialized myka ht might be better for the money…

opinions?

go to some shops and check them out/ride them. Most of the bikes are going to be very similar but make sure it fits well. handlebars on englewood carries Specialized and should have a good selection. Look for Rob on monday/tuesday nights or saturdays. There are a lot of shops around and berts is the last one I’d go to. Eric’s In hamburg is another good choice but he may not have a big selection. Also Tri Spot on Transit may be another to check out.

i knew guys that worked and berts back in the day, and they said bert was a jerk lol

At $400 you’re not going to get anything special. If it is a legit bikestore, anything that she fits properly on will fit the bill.

Ya I remember Ernie.

You would be best to look for a used bike for that pricepoint. You would be suprised at how many people go out and buy expensive bikes just to try out the sport, don’t like it, and then take a HUGE loss on selling them used. Most bikes that fall into this category are also in great condition with about 100 miles or less on them. I bought a Trek from some kid who tried out every sport and then sold it all for a loss when he wanted to try out the next thing he saw. Also, try and get something that does not weigh as much as a car. If it is too heavy she will not like riding it even around town. Not saying to buy a 15lb Ellsworth but try and stay away from the really heavy ones. My GF had one that she got from her sister that weighed a ton and she hated it so I sold it on Craigslist for $60.

word up to buying used

I got a $700 bike for $300
