I’m looking for a bike, but don’t want to spend more than about $300. Does anyone know of any makes besides Specialized and Giant that have low end models that are descent? And can anyone recommend a good bike shop around?
to be honest the mongoose’s at wall mart are really nice and really inexspensive…like around $200
Yea, I like them but I want to get one from a bike shop. The few shops I have been to seem to offer free tuneups and maintenance, which is good. I’m pretty rough on bikes. The last bike I had I destroyed after 1 time riding it. I had the $140 bike from wal mart and basically had to throw it away after 1 ride and I don’t want that to happen again.
Trek!!!
It all comes back to VW’s. :D:D:D
I was just looking at them on the net - I forgot all about them. They have some nice bikes.
i have a trek 300 old school and a newer 950??? or something… they are great bikes… i had that 300 for over 10 years!!!
GT makes some entry level stuff.
I was just looking for bike ahops and there is one right across from Cutty’s dad’s garage on 885. They carry Trek and a bunch of others, i’ll probably stop there on the way home from work. The trek’s seem to offer the most for the money and also have a lifetime warranty from factory.
I’ll have to see the GT bikes also - I have read some good things about them.
thanks
what can you possible tune up on a bicycle
have you ever ridden a bike before?
Shifter, brakes, suspension - and just making sure that all the things still work.
Granted, it’s not like a motorcycle but there are things to look at from time to time. And if a shop will do the work and not me, all the better
that would be maintenance wouldnt it not a tune up
 :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:
yeah… what about a water bottle? is that a tune up, maintenance, or a mod?
eric (vapor trail) has a mountain bike for sale.lemme see how much he wants for it
I loved my Trek. It was an 850, Cromoly frame. i would step up and go with an Aluminum framed model if you can afford it. And stay away from grip shift. Shimano > Grip Shift crap
I hear ya - my last bike had the grip shift and everytime I went to lift the front wheel the damn thing would go half a gear and I would usually end up rolling down a hill and hitting a tree or creek.
I have a Trek and haven’t had any problems. Check out Bike Line - they’re in Greensburg.
i just bought a trek at scholls bike center…they sold me last years model for 350 and said it was basically the same as this years model…they were closing so i said cool ill take it…i get home to notice it has cheaper gears on it , so now i have to return it tomorrow and get the 04 model…for 400, its a trek 4500 btw
yea that bike that eric has is sweet, full suspension proflex…i think…also check out univega they make some sweet bikes
i have a gt xcr400 full suspension bike that just happens to be for sale the only problem is i want like 450 for it if you are interested
the bike is practacally brand new only ridden like a dozen times let me know
Specialized is a good brand. Check out the Hardrock line, decent components and bullet proof frame. I just picked up a cannondale from Gatto cycles, they offer free brake, and gear adjustments for the whole life of your bike. If you want to buy a bike online, check out KHS bikes, lots of bang for your buck. I have a 2000 KHS Full suspension bike, got it for 500 but it has high end components from bikes over 1k. also check out www.bikenashbar.com or www.universalcycles.com. I suggest getting a hardtail bike… Full suspension only really works well on high end bikes. I like my hardtail bike more than my full suspension bike.
