Ok, So maybe It isnt too urgent or important but i have a strange question. My wifes phone is a Samsung Black jack .From what i remember about those phones their OS Is windows based. Or made by microsoft at least. Anyway when she brings it into her work. to be more specific into the office/cubicle she works in her phone displays a message that reads “emergency service only”. That kind of made me think. The strange part is that if the phone was to actually lose it’s signal than It probably wouldnt display anything of that nature. But if she were to walk about 2 yards into the hallway of her office, that her phone is fully functional. If she was to cross the hallway and walk into the office across from hers, the same exact thing happens" emergency calls only". Now her phone is onthe AT&T network, the verison phones in her building really do not seem to be affected by that phenomenon if you will.
I remember hearing something a long time ago from a friend of mine about federal buildings employing something… Well for a lack of a better term the only thing i can relate it to is WIFI. i guess it supposedly disables certain cellphones for whatever reason, and seeing as to how microsoft loves big brother I thought Id just throw it out there out of curiosity to see if anyone has heard of an outlandish thing such as that before.
The structure of the building itself can be interfering with the signal. Never heard about a device that can just block it altogether.
A friend of mine couldn’t get service in the house we lived in like a year ago, on his blackberry with Verizon, but my identical blackberry with Verizon picked it up just fine. He always had to go down to the street. He called Verizon and they literally said to him that the phones are not made to work in buildings, and that they couldn’t replace his phone since “service inside” was not a covered service of theirs.
Edit: Although some searching on google indicates that there such things as cell phone jammers, but they are completely illegal. Though I guess that doesn’t stop the government from doing such a thing nowadays. Maybe your wife is a terrorist?
Her phone is set to home network only, and it’s locked by AT&T. That means that she can only use the AT&T network or one of their roaming partners networks. However, she is still able to pick up a non-AT&T GSM signal inside her building (T-Mobile for example) so AT&T allows you to make 911 calls over that network, just not regular phone calls.
Dam, Awesome answer. Now why did’nt i think of that? Oh ya I was listening to a friend of mine that did an exuberant amount of acid back in the day. Dam hippies.
