wouldnt let me insatl 98 on my hard drive … so i take and put it in an old hp pavilion i have and use the system recovery cds. then i install xp on it and pull the hard drive out and put it in my machine. goes to boot up and says its missing NTLDR… wtf is that and how do i fix it :frowning:

windows sucks thats your problem  … thats why i bought a MAC

It means the boot sector of your hard drive is not right, was that the only hard drive in your machine when you installed xp?

Why not just boot of the XP cd and do the install that way.

try getting rid of all that gay pron that you have saved on there

XP won’t let you move the boot drive to another pc. You need to install XP on the hard drive in the pc you want it in. I tried switching xp hard drives before and not one of them worked, but when I put it back in the pc it came out of it worked good. :dunno:

just download linux and get rid of microshaft.

i tried installing 98 on my hard drive so i can go to my xp upgrade… well 98 install freezes halfway through saying i interupted something and it couldnt instal a .cab file. so then i installed the hp recovery cd on the hp and then pulled the hard drive and tried installing xp that way… but the hard drive wont boot after xp shuts it down so it can continue installation.

i may just pay a copmuter person to come out and fix it

98 to xp :ugh2:

are you completely formatting your HD with a boot disk? If you’re not, that’s more than likely what is messing you up. Do the old format c: from a disk booted DOS prompt. If you’re installing 98 first, you’ll have to format in Fat32 then convert it later with your upgrade. If the format doesn’t work (which sometimes it doesn’t) you may need to wipe the drive completely with a more harsh tool like http://www.killdisk.com/ it’s free and did the trick for me one time when i was stuck. That plus a fdisk/mbr Seems like an aweful lot of trouble to put XP back on your system. Oh and you can probably expect to have to call microsoft to get a new varification code if this is a legit copy. Good luck man.
