omni clear coat over deltron paint

Anyone see any problems with this combination? I was attempting to use this old omni paint I had to paint my trunk lid and either I suck, or omni paint is worse than I remember it being. I even thinned the stuff out a little bit more than the suggested mix ratio and the paint still splattered and ran like crazy.

So I want to use the deltron/ppg paint as a base and use the remaining omni clear on top, since the omni clear is pretty easy to work with.

Comments? Suggestions? Forseeable problems?

Thanks!

not a problem, did that for long time. omni is PPG paint. kinda bottom of the barrel stuff but the combination will work. hopefully the clear is not too old though

clear is about a year+ old. The consitancy looks about right.

how about mixing deltron paint with omni reducer? Can’t let that half gallon of medium reducer goto waste!

should be fine. but you say your gun is spraying funny? keep in mind with omni you have to put extra coats on since it is so thin. DBC takes 2-3 coats and covered. i have used omni where it takes 4-6 coats sometimes.

yeah, it was spraying way too wet out of the gun. I think it was a combination of old paint and not cleaning the gun out well enough the last time. oops!

omni is definatly bottom of the barrel… it will do the job… but its no BASF

omni clear is ok but sucks over time it sometimes likes to dye back, i swear as time goes on the shit is made cheaper and cheaper has more solvents then solids and dyes out, but for the longest time i used ppg dbc basecoat and cleared it with omni and never had one problem with that, and it sounds like your gun isnt operating right
