One Lap - Josh Hayes and the Yamaha R1 at Road America

I think this is a great vid. Not an actual race lap but some good demo on vision and body position.

Enjoy! :excited

He has an odd position he doesn’t lock his leg into the tank during a lean.

I say he looked pretty good, very much inline with riders like lorenzo or spies with his upper inner thigh pretty much lines up with the centerline of the tank.

If you meant, locked-in like Elias or Pegram, then you are sitting way too far off the seat and will result in a kinked riding position. I had the same issue before I corrected it.

^^ Wow, what different riding positions! Elias is completely off the seat, while Jorge looks to be around 55% of the way on the seat.

Yup, look up a pict of Pegram and you will be shocked…:rofl

Try prop up your own bike and sit like Elias does and take you hands off the handle and you will fall off you seat, meaning you are in fact partially pulling the bar to keep yourself from falling and at the same time try to steer the bike and use the throttle at the same time…

Riding position can very from rider to rider. Rossi locks his leg

Whats comfortable is key, but being too close to the tank can limit how far your knee can go out & how far you can get your butt off the seat. The rule of thumb is to at least have a fist of room between you and the tank & one cheek off the seat.

I agree comfort is key, as it inspires confidence, as long as you are not interfering with your hand/arm controls.

Rider position do and will very a little due to difference in rider dimensions but, IMO, should not deviate too far from the norm. As much as riders like Elias and Pegram made their crossed-up riding style “worked”, this is not something that any school/coach with teach.

Just to clarify a fist of space between you and the tank is measured when you are in normal riding position.

The best way to do this for new riders is to push your shoulder into the turn.
It’s hard to explain without showing someone psychically. But lets say someone isn’t as confident into right hand turn. ala Me:lol
If you push your right shoulder forward a little into said turn I personally find this keeps me from putting any stress or input into the outer handle bar. This move should be used during an aggressive lean not durring a slow turn.

I thought this also applied to turns. I can’t say I’m comfortable with my kibbles and bits again the tank while into a lean.:rofl
With the design of the R6 tank I find my leg is locked in position best with a little room between the tank. My biggest issue personally is breaking to early & not getting half my ass off the seat enough.:lol
