Sorry, but that’s probably required by ADA regulations. Handicapped people do exercise, AND they have a right to work there, so there has to be a way for them to get upstairs.
in that regard wouldn’t it necessitate wheelchair access? escalators don’t really help with that

ADA would require elevators not escalators… plus a minimum three foot turning radius to all walls
