or rent. ~24' trailer.

bought a boat project, trailer needs a little bit of work as well. looking to put the whole setup on a trailer roughly 24ft long. will only weigh ~1000 lbs at the most.

tried u haul, penske, abc rental, united rental, dicarilo truck, hertz equipment. anyone have one or know where i could rent one?

are you trying to trailer a trailer + boat?

Or just move the boat? or the trailer? or do you want to keep the boat on the new trailer while you fix the old trailer

I can help if you clarify

im looking to take the boat while on the trailer, block it and strap the whole thing down to a trailer. its not very tall or wide, boat is an 18’ so the whole setup is ~21’ long. i figure around 24’ is what ill need. its a shallow hull 70’s era jet boat, basically an empty hull with gas pedal and steering wheel on a trailer.

okay, we have a trailer that might be able to fit that, i will measure it tomorrow its sort of like a flat bed that you see construction vehicles on

thanks, let me know.

how wide is the wheel base on the boat trailer, this one has two wheel humps at the end of it (it sits low to the ground) i want to make sure the boat wheels will clear between them.

i was told the width of the trailer is 7’4". however that may not have to go past the wheel hump

still trying to locate a trailer.

You could probably use a slightly smaller trailer if you can find one that the wheels fit over. Back the boat+Trailer on and let the tongue of the boat trailer hang off. Put a flag or something on it.

I can’t really offer any help with the trailer though unless you happen to be picking it up near Binghamton…

im not too sure about having it hanging off but will see…and no i have no intentions of going through binghamton. i plan to take the 90 down past albany and head south as its right on the border of conneticut.

Chances are with a trailer that old it’s a style where the boat rides on top of the wheels and the wheelbase isn’t 7’6" wide. If the wheelbase will fit I’d just rent the uhaul auto transporter and bring enough straps and lengths of 4x4 to make it work. Back the boat trailer onto the auto transporter so the trailer wheels can be strapped down to the hold downs at the front of the auto transport. Then use your 4x4’s to make something that will support the tongue end of the boat trailer. The majority of the weight will be on the axle of the boat trailer so what every you do to support the tongue doesn’t have to be that strong.

Looking at this picture you might even get away with just letting the tongue sit on one of the cross members of the auto-transport.

I’d still feel better taking a pair of 4x4’s, strapping them together to make a 4x8 then strapping that 4x8 width wise across the trailer to make a nice 8" wide platform to strap the tongue down to.

Just tell uhaul you’re planning to haul a small car when you reserve it or they’re going to deny you the rental.

ive actually talked to uhaul before about renting car haulers, they want to know the model car and model truck involved and everything.

i have a couple friends im waiting to hear back from on a trailer, however jay and jimmy i do appreciate the idea with the 4x4’s and letting the tongue hang off. it will make things much easier with locating a trailer.

still looking. could probably make do with a 20ft open.

nevermind on this. thanks

I always just lied. Obviously have to tell the truth about the tow vehicle but when they asked what I was towing I always picked something with decent ground clearance, short overhangs and low weight so their stupid computer wouldn’t tell me it couldn’t be done. “Yeah, I’m picking up a 2004 Chevy Aveo”.

They also claim a Fiero GT can’t be towed with their tow dolly because of clearance issues but I’ve done it multiple times. Again, lied about what I was towing.
