Out of a job yet? keep buying foreign

Who needs fair competition right? Maybe we should adopt communist Russia’s policy of isolationism, when it took 10 years to get a car after you paid for it, and it was a p.o.s. cause there was no compeition.

And fuck those dealership owners/salesman/admn/mechanic/distric managers/head office workers in Ontario.

LOL, 90k a year for a retard put bolts on a car for 8 hours a day isn’t fair, its unions exploiting management. No wonder they went bankrupt.

Joe, Honda and toyota have built manufaturing plants in Southern Ontario with more planned… dozens of cities competed for the plants.

Toyota pays guys $25 - $35 an hour + + + … it’s a way better job than working for the big 3… more job security too.

There are guys on this forum that work for Toyota and will work for Honda when they open up in woodstock i think.

I am a GM employee, I make about 50 cents more than your average Mc. Job.

I’d much rather work for toyota.

You’d think with the money that they pay GM employees compared to other car manufactures all over the world that GM would have some of the top quality products.

But it’s the opposite, for the trashy folks (which like I said before is a large percentage of the employees) they get paid WAAAAAAAYYYY too much for their competence. So they pay off their rent and drink and smoke the rest of their money away cause they don’t know what else to do with it. Then go into work hung over everyday building cars that people invest thousands of dollars of their hard earned money into. They should pay them less.

my co-worker worked for toyota… made amazing cash… overtime pay was amazing and you could work holidays at your discretion. Overtime + holiday pay = WOW

Then he left because it was to simple lol… Everything is very well structured he said making it very routine and boring.

Wow, apparently the practices are much different up there. In the states it’s widely known that the import manufacturers target anti-labor states in the South and pay much worse than their domestic counterparts. You guys have a lot better worker rights and higher wages, plus employers are free of the health care burden, but I’m surprised they’re at the level of the big 3. I admittedly can’t comment on their Canadian practices but the US market has a HUGE descrepancy between union and non union manufacturers. I wonder if the domestic companies are just more unfavorable with their pay up there, or if the imports know their labor market and step up their game.

I will say though that GM and Ford are putting out the highest quaity stuff they ever have now. Scoring near the top for quality. Some people are still clinging to the old stereotypes but the present numbers don’t lie. Not to make excuses for some of the crap they put out in the past but when you’re dumping thousands on top of the price of each car to cover retiree health care, which we wouldn’t have if the US finally got their shit together and went socialized, it stacks the deck a little.

Rule #1 of all international trade economics models.

All countries involved in trade, will benefit.

They stay away from regions what the CAW is very strong IE: Niagara. but that is just heresay.

Honestly when I worked at ford i got paid real good, 36 bux an hour cash… awesome, especially considering I was a student still. However the work environment was lame. The supervisors were slave drivers and the workers (for the most part) didn’t have a vocabulary larger than fuck, shit and damn on repeat. The work was hardcore labor which I didn’t mind per say, but the repetitive tasks = doomsday killer, constant BZZ BZZ of tools killed me haha. Plus there was this one televangelist dude that always tried to go after me LOL. Because i was a student and didn’t know my rights I just said fuck it and quit lol. If only I knew about the union haha… This was the oakville plant.

On the other hand I hear toyota and honda = much better towards employees from a psychological standpoint.

We sold my gfs 2008 G5 (she bought it before I met her) because it had more problems then my 1990 Integra Winter beater.

it’s still worse than Kia and Hyundai.

My wife’s plymouth breeze, a decade old now admittedly, blew 2 headgaskets before 150,000kms.

our 2007 Kia Rondo has not has a single issue in 94,000km’s and is still under full warranty and was cheaper than the domestic equivalent.

I’d look at a Ford Edge… but ultimately, i willlikely keep my wife in a korean car because they are cheaper, warrantied and very reliable.

moreover, just because they are better now doesnt absolve them from accountability by way of reduced sales.

Kia and hyundai prices have gone up lol :frowning:

It’s all a crapshoot. Nobody believes me that my 2007 Trailblazer SS, made by union guys in Ohio, that I’ve been whacking with a 150 shot of nitrous on a bone stock engine since 1000miles, has never been in for service. (Knock on wood)
Either way, when things like this start popping up, it’s encouraging. I’ve never bought import, but only because they don’t make the V8’s with lots of torque that I like and I think they cater too much to the crowd that views cars as appliances and not enough to car guys.

Ford has always done somewhat decent job, GM not so much (with exceptions of course)… however they created the reputation for THEMSELVES.

The Germans and Japanese has always been consistant and have earned a reputation as such.

It is upto domestic auto makers to clean up their reputation. It was them than ran their products/name into the ground for awhile its going to take awhile to repair that.

The Automobile to the average person is the SECOND biggest purchase in ones lifetime, house being the first. Its just like buying stocks, you won’t be putting 30-60k into a company (product) if it wasn’t a sound investment.

If only ford would design a better line up of cars… other than just a mustang.

The new ford taurus sho is a TRUCK… how about the ford fusion design with a sho setup…

Or how about a lighter/more nibler mustang?

Or a hot hatch that’s actually worth a damn like a cosworth sierra type thing here in north america…

Or how about bringing the inline 6 motors that they offer in australia?

Blah…

Not sure about canadians but the american market for the most part hates hatches. Almost as much as wagons.
Other than being super expensive, Australia is a sick market for cars. All RWD and big power. The Holden and Ford stuff there is awesome.

I meant stuff like this historic bad boy:

http://www.comp.co.uk/gallery/pics/Ford%20Sierra%20Cosworth%20CXT1880%208%20X%2018.JPG

And yes in australia holden/ford = kick ass… everything is inline6/turbo/v8/rwd/bad ass.

Obviously by today’s standards its ugly but I mean it was a trend setter, and a ford vehicle that kicked major ass.

I agree with you on this, GM, ford and dodge are more daring with their enthusiast offerings. The only real issue with that is in order to produce cars catered to enthuisiasts, they have to build to a price. Case and point: Cobalt SS, ford focus SVT, Neon SRT4. Great concepts, priced right - but built poorly in order to be priced within the target markets.

Most japanese companies aren’t willing to take risks like that, and its because they never really pan out.

i heard Ford was considering bringing the australian Falcon over here as a police-only vehicle…

oh and about the Pontiac G5, i had one as a rental car for 3 weeks last year…biggest piece of shit i have EVER driven. it was a 2009 with only 15k on it, and it ALREADY had weird noises coming from the brakes and suspension. absolutely zero R&D as well. the car felt like it could have been made in 1998, and still wouldn’t have been anything significant back then.

oh and there’s another sticker like this that i’m seeing alot of…“Made in Canada Matters”, surrounded by a maple leaf.

You were a lucky son of a bitch to get that kind of money as a student. With overtime work you could EASILY pay for a university education and have a new car to drive to and from school in by working one year. Those days are gone. I can’t believe you’d quit. Most students eitheir work McJobs or suck dick for real money. If I were you, I would have took a year off, paid for school, and bought an FD.
