Painting OEM Chrome Rims...

Just wondering if any one has done this before, I don’t want it to look like shit. I’m guessing they need to be sanded or something, I also have my winter tires on these rims, i don’t feel like paying to get them removed and re-balanced. I was thinking about painting them a flat/Matte Black since my truck is black, and I think it would look sweet. Can it be done with my brand new good tires on the rims, is it worth doing?

Thanks

These exact rims with tires around the same size, 33’s…

Without removing the tires I wouldn’t bother. I had a set of chrome wheels on a car I bought, like everything about the wheels except the fact that they were chrome and it was all peeling and flaking off. Took them to a place and had them bead blasted and powder coated.

Yeah i hear ya, maybe I will do that next year then. I think it would be sweet with them blacked out though.

i use index cards put them between the wheel and tire then paint away its easy and only takes a minuet

Check out plasti-dip, $8/can at lowes, semi-perm solution. You can remove it down the road and sell them as chrome again. I have done it to mine and am quite happy, if you search plasti-dip wheels on google there are tons of auto sites with write ups.

I used 2 cans, 3 coats on 4 20s. Been to auto and manual car washes and no peeling.

That is sweet! I’ll have to check it out.

you can powdercoat translucents over chrome, there’s some black chrome powder I’ve been itchin’ to try.

i have 8+lbs of it if you want it. PM me…
i dont powder coat anymore. to busy with other crap
