Part Time Work...?

Great Post, Bump for you

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. you mean like registering your business, DOING THE “RIGHT THING” and acting like an adult. i wasnt trying to be a dick but youre asking for someone with professional credentials yet you are unwilling to treat this person like a PROFESSIONAL.
Thats the whole problem with the automotive industry -way underpaid! , employers dont want to treat automotive technicians (not Mechanic’s) like professionals.

And, what in the hell does personal responsibility have to do with any of those items? That’s right, nothing.

Registering? Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have had a legit business w/business certificate and a certificate of authority for almost a decade. Hell, I am even pending with the DMV too, regardless of the actual need for it. Last I checked, the DMV doesn’t regulate off road parts, fabrication, and shipments as such… but whatever, it might come in handy.

So far as you not being a dick… lets see, this thread has ZERO to do with you, and your only intention was to be a negative input for someone looking to make some side money while being a thorn in my ass. I think that ANYONE could guess, that there is a reason behind that. Either you are involved with another shop, or you are a pissed off technician who wants more money. Don’t cry, it will be all right!

If I was hiring a PROFESSIONAL for FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT WITH BENEFITS, that would be one thing. I am NOT. I am looking for part time side work, clearly spelled out. Guess what, I can ask for and offer whatever I want from someone, and if the market will bare it, then it will bare it. It is the benefit of being the one who does the paying. Don’t like it? Don’t read it, and don’t do the job. Its a simple thing, you know.

And… with regard to your “way underpaid” comment. Perhaps you should go read post #7. If you want to run a shop that charges 75/hr, and pays the tech 50… have at it. Let me know how it works out for you- I will buy your equipment and building when you go under and save myself the hassle of putting up my own in the spring.

I’m a hard worker and would love to do something like this but i don’t have the know how. :frowning: Free bump!

I enjoyed this thread because I just got a part time job today welding aluminum radiators.

I was going to say more, but I shall not.
Thank you.

Its funny that people aren’t jumping at this…its Buffalo and your making $15 cash money after hours to work on vipers.

Haha, I know. I actually have gotten a decent response to this post off the forums, so its all good.

Make sure you have your new “employee” fill out his W4 (I think thats it).

That way, when the state drops by, it will be on new guy’s 1st day.
(I’m guessing they might stop by soon)

I’m pretty sure that Pauly works for the DMV…something about working with automotive shops too lol

I will work for $80/hr as a motivational coach. I can offer such services as telling you repeatedly to finish the car, drink anything you have in the fridge, and ask for all of the random parts you have that I can use.

You guys need to stop giving Dan a hard time. This is in the autos forum and it is a simple request for a part time worker. I know I wouldn’t work for $15 an hr but only because I don’t have the time right now. Otherwise it would be a really fun way to make some side cash. For those of you that enjoy cars on the same level I do it is such a great feeling to be involved with build of this caliber. But maybe someone else will have the time so unless you have something reasonably insightful or are interested in the position lets keep it to ourselves.

Nope, anyone would have to fill out a 1099. Its their call what they do with anything they are paid, since they are not technically employees.

And that’s a BIG IF. I would have to find someone first, decide they are good, and then decide if I feel like making my wallet smaller.

The funny thing is… that the only CARS being worked on, I technically own, and other than that, everything is off-road/racing type stuff. So, no matter what, its a tad out of anyone’s “jurisdiction” to begin with.

Seriously. No matter what I do or post, someone always has to have a problem with it. If anyone else had posted this, nothing would have been said. Its funny how its “OK” to do some side work on a rusty car leaking fuel and teetering on a broken jackstand in someones gravel driveway while smoking a cool, yet its not OK to help out someone who knows what in the hell they are doing, working on a clean engine on a stand in a well lit garage with A/C that will ultimately end up in a race car. Its all a matter of perspective, and sometimes people fail to see the forest for the trees.

It’s the employers job to fill out a 1099 and give it to the independent contractor (not considered an employee) at tax time.

An independent contractor can write off tool purchases, mileage, etc from that amount but will need to pay taxes on the adjusted amount.

Although I don’t think that makes you (Final GTS) personally or professionally immune from someone seeking damages from being hurt while working in a place that you either lease or own.

And Pauly = DMV.

While that is of course true, it is also true that someone who trips on your sidewalk can sue you just the same. That’s what insurance is for. Anyone who is on my property for any reason at all can do the same, and all of that is covered under multiple different insurance umbrellas.

Hell, you could drop by to SEE an engine of mine, and have the stand break and have it fall on your foot. You don’t need to be working on it for shit like that to happen.

shit i told him I’d help him turn wrenches for free just for fun, i love vipers =D
