How much do you charge for auto work?

How much do you charge for side jobs, bigger ones like head gasket ,water pumps, transmissions, etc. I ask some other people online and they said between like 40-50 an hour, and I heard 89 and hour being the lowest shop rate. I figured 35-40 an hour for a head gasket, with a certain limit even if I exceed it but the guy buying the car from my friend told him a “master mechanic” who works for NFTA will do it for 20 an hour.

who cares

I just insist on being blown the entire time I’m working. :gotme:

Beer. It will end up costing a lot.

After seeing your car, i wouldnt let u fix a roller skate.

LMFAO

not mechanical related…but for fiberglass, i usually charge the cost of materials x 3

it depends on the job, the car, and who they are.

Derrick?

depending on the car, 40-50/hr

that seems good price, depending on who im doing work for…fuck, if they dont wanna give u that. let them go to someone else for cheaper…

Yes, I know all the other cars I fix where people have the money for the right parts don’t count I geuss. Seems I can’t count the transmission I installed yesterday because at the very end of the day I leaned on the rad support and snapped off a little black connector on the wire harness. I’m so bad.

what the fuck did i just read

and why

Ya that seems right, either way your looking at shops being way more.
It definitly depends on the car, neons I’d easily do 30-35 an hour depending on its age/rust/weather since I’m so used to them and its easy.

do you and speedped fix cars together?

if you have to ask this question, you shouldn’t be doing the work.

ditto. unless it’s a friend of mine and/or depending on the job, i’ll buy the parts at cost and charge retail to install

down here my “job rate” usually works out to about $100/hr.

Clutch is $350, timing belt is $300, Suspension is $200 etc…

Thats like telling someone who wants to get into an automotive job he needs prior experience. Its just like any other service you need to compare prices, not like I can go around saying 100 bucks an hour.

Yes, it would be a good idea to know what the hell you are doing before you go looking for a job in such a field.
