Does anyone have or know of any autmatic password reset software? We are looking to purchase some sort of package but don’t know anyone who has used any.
I know one of the guys at work uses something called knopix (sp?)
Not sure what it is or it’s legal, but I’ve seen him do some neat stuff with it regarding passwords.
we’re looking for something to put in place to allow the user to “self reset” their passwords either via e-mail or a phone call.

knoppix is a linux kernal that boots off a cd
you can reset passwords but it is a pain in the ass through knoppix
yea its called Active Directory (if you are talking about resetting passwords for logging into computers off of a doamin)
We have active directory now… as well as SAP, Lotus Notes, Black Book , BECC, Unix, and several others I can’t think of now… We want the user to be able to send a note or call a number… give up some info… pick their system… and get an e-mail with a password reset. We… the helpdesk… do not want to do it.

what does the helpdesk do that they do not have time to reset passwords?
usually takes only a minute maybe more to reset a password. how many times a week do you have to reset passwords?

We have 8 people supporting 14,000 users Globally… 80% of our calls are password resets… on a normal daily basis that is approx 120 calls per day between 8 am and 6 pm… more from other countries after that. Our people are using their resources to perform a non-chalengingtask… instead of being productive and helping to fix systems. We would like to relieve that burden.
