Pastrana gets his shot on the World Stage (WRC)

Pastrana will enter three P-WRC events in 2007 in Mexico, Argentina and Great Britain. For the uninitiated, the Production Car WRC is made up of Group N production-based cars with 2000cc engines. Generally they’re a step faster than the North American cars Travis is driving now, but not the purpose-built rockets used in the full-fledged WRC.

Looks like Subaru is rewarding him for winning the American Championship. Assuming they got their FIA entry filed in time, Pastrana will be running on the World Stage next season.

One step away from a real WRC ride, if he is good enough to capitalize on it. I have my doubts, but we’ll see how he does.

I’d like to see him succeed, but like you said, I’m unsure of whether he can really compete at that level.

If he could that’d be amazing, he’s so good at what he does… especially moto-x did anyone forget he like invented all the most insane shit on a dirtbike? I mean whoever thought they’d see someone do a double-backflip off of a dirt ramp like 50ft in the air. insane. i hope he conquers.

McCrae would have just edged him out on the X games if he didnt flip over.

So if you go by stages and he is that close to a world class driver…then he will probably be decent. I understand a nice dry closed stadium is different then an open weather stage. But i give him credit for trying it.

i hope he does not burn out like in moto-X.

The super-special stages tend to be equalizers for drivers. We won’t really see how he does until he goes and hits the real stages.

Definetly

i just hope he dont smoke the motor or do something dumb and slip up like he always does in MX (not freestyle)…but yeah…he my favorite rider and person in the world…i wish him much luck and really hope he does well

Travis will be world champion or damn near close within 5-6 years, if you think otherwise, you’re a fool. He’s got the money, the time, the connections, and definitely has the talent.

Burn out? Like continuing to win Xgames year after year?

rethink that thought. He was all hype for the 250 supercross. He had the team the talent, the full ride, and all he wanted to do was ride his bike off in the ocean.

I think kenny barturm (cowboy kenny) might be the next threat in rally. Or the godfather of FX in offroad trucks. Or RC in nascar.

i dont think we have seen enough of him to make that claim. and we both know what looks like talent at the rally america level is not always a true representation. he has money which got him a ways, and yes he has talent, but i dont know about a definite ability to compete on a world stage

Don’t forget, he’s only what, 23? He has all the time in the world to improve.

He’ll never do it while Loeb is still driving in WRC unless Citroen pulls a Subaru…

Does “damn near close” mean 4th overall in the championship?

The talent level of Loeb, Gronholm and Solberg are on a whole other level vs. the rest of the WRC. Loeb has more consistency than either Solberg or Gronholm though. Hirvonen has proven himself this year, but the Focus WRC was also the ringer car. Even driving that car, he was not able to keep up with Gronholm on raw speed, though he usually put some comfortable amount of time between himself and the next driver.

Pastrana will need to be able to consistently beat the 2nd tier of WRC drivers like Stohl, Sordo, Galli, Pons, Gardemeister, and Atkinson if he is to live up to these high expectations. That’s a tall order because even those 2nd tier drivers are very talented. Not all of them have the greatest teams backing them up however, and that will be to Pastrana’s advantage. Of course, that’s assuming Subaru can turn things around for 2007.

Too many new things going on to really make the call right now. I can’t wait for the next season to start.

We’ll see, won’t we… First things first, lets get Travis in a Prodrive car.
