POKER TOURNAMENT/LEAGUE Sat, 10/24/09.

I talked about this last year, and despite several members claiming to be interested…none showed to the best of my knowledge…so i got frustrated with the nyspeed population talking the usual talk without walking any walk. I’ll try again for the first few months this year…and if i get no response, you can resort to PM’s to find out about future tournaments.

Wolcottsville Firehall.

$40 buy in (or so it was last year, doubt they raised it though)

7PM sharp start time…or so they say, but you may be safe walking in at 7:15…but you didn’t hear that from me.

BYOB

Food differs every month…some months they get sheet pizzas and you buy a slice for a buck, some months burgers/dogs, etc…

Usually between 120 and 150 entrants…and top prize almost always over a grand, with 10% of entrans +2 or 3 getting paid. so, 140 entrants = 16 or 17 paid spots.

It’s every month for 8 months…and 2 of the months have 2 tournys, so there’s 10 tournys altogether. And…IT’S A LEAGUE.

Here’s how the league works:

Aside from the monthly tournament payouts…

Top 50 finishers get points every month…50th = 10 points, 49th = 20 points, etc…so 1st every week gets 500 points.

At end of all 10 tournys, top 27 in points get free entry into the Tournament of Champions. ($5 from every buy in every week is put on the side to make the prize pool for said final tournament). Every one of these 27 will get paid…first place should get around $3000. This is the 11th week i believe…and those that didn’t make the cut in the points race are welcome to show and play in a regular final tournament. Also, if you come in 1st any given month, you automatically get a seat in the tourny of champs. So basically the 10 1st place winners (assuming nobody wins twice) along with the top 17 in points get entry…

PM me for details, and i’ll prob just PM you back my cell since it’s easier to just discuss details/plans via text/call. It’s a bit of a hike from most places, and i’m happy to meet anybody and have you follow me since i work til 6PM saturdays on transit not far from this place, and my work is easy to find…so you can meet me at work and follow me from work to the firehall.

damn is this wasnt saturdays i would be in

im interested but im gonna miss the first tourney is that ok?

Pending I’m not doing anything with any of the area off road clubs the day of the tournaments I’m In

Shit forgot that a certain Nyspeed member is getting married that day.

I’m in deffinatley

Wow I would totally be in but that is a hour drive from WS.

If nothing is going on, I will probably stop up. $40 is pretty sweet.

Same place I’m comming from… Problem is my Jeep is my DD and the head and gaskets are shot. I wouldn’t make it that far with out over heating… I’ll try to get another vehlicle to get there…

Edit: Boxxa If you haven’t gotten dirrections yet, ours should be close to the same so for you good sir Google Maps

I work right out here by the transit drive in…and get out at 6PM on Saturdays, so this works perfect for me. Anybody interested in meeting me out here at 6:15 or 6:30, i’ll prob just hang at work for a bit and meet anybody that wants to at 6:30 at south transit lanes or the gas station at the corner of transit/robinson, and leave from there and we can tear up the short backroad cruise from there to the firehall itself.

Hmmm, provided I get off work I may come play.

How long does the tournament typically last? Is it a faster moving one or does this go on till 6am?

I am 50/50 on it cuz its my sisters birthday out downtown so may have to miss this one. If I do go I will be taking the 400>Transit>5>93 if anyone wants to meet and cruise togehter.

I’ve final tabled a handful of times, and made it to the final 2 once or twice…and if you plan on taking home 1st, plan to be there until 12 or 1 at the very latest.

And i have no idea what route you’re talking about boxxa…i’m coming from cheektowaga/not far from west seneca myself, and found the fastest way to be 90>290>990>millersport>transit>robinson and a few backroads from there.

Haha google maped it from my house. I am right off the 400 and it sent me west on the 400 and then up transit. I made it pick the highway route and its 3 minutes longer

Just double checking… This is the place correct?

Park in back, there’s a back entrance…

Soooo…did anybody end up going, or was it the usual NYSpeed “yeah i’ll go” from a ton of people, and noone showed up?

We had about 145 or so entrants…amazing turnout considering it was the first one of the season!

And a couple changes this year…not only are they using the point system and having a special large payout tournament at the end for the best players, but furthermore…the top in points as well as the top finisher in that final bonus tournament, in addition to the cash they’ve won along the way, win…

A PAID SPOT IN THE WORLD POKER TOUR MAIN EVENT!

Last year i think the buy-in to that was $10,000, and first place was around $10,000,000.

Amazing how far this little tournament has gone in the past few years to where now they’re talking about paying to have people enter such a big tournament.

As for me, this past Saturday was a bit of a let down. Got nickle and dimed for a while…started to make a comeback…then lost 2 big hands and was somewhat crippled. Catch pocket 9’s, raise pre flop, get one caller. Flop comes 2 7 8, no flush draw possible, i bet big…guy pushes for not much more…but in calling i only had enough over him to cover the small blind…i call, to see he caught a set of 7’s.

I’m small blind immediately next hand, forced all in, don’t even look at my cards until all is said and done…and the only guy left in the hand at the river with me was a guy that bluffed everybody off with a flush draw he missed…and i turn over to see i had Q 3…and caught bottom pair, and won. So i quad up…a few hands go by, i catch K Q and push (push = only cover the BB), and the only caller is the guy in the big blind. I catch top pair with my Q…as does he…only he rivers a 5 giving him 2 pair. I’m out.

Not much i coulda done…was card dead all night, and every time i caught anything, people were going crazy pushing all in at me, and i couldn’t justify calling any of them.

The next tournament is October 3rd…and then 2 weeks after that. I’m debating making a new thread every time or just bumping this one, changing the title/date every time…

I made it. Had a absoulutley awesome time. Played well most of the night. Had a bad stint there for a bit, but for most of the night I played well and caught some flops I could work with… Made it till just past 11pm. Went out with time expiered in the 1000/2000 blinds (I think)… Had Ace, Queen of Clubs. Moved all in pre flop. I only had 12,000 or so in chips left so I had to make a move. 2 guys call… They went side pot… Flop 2c, Qs, 7c. So great for me I figure… But nope not to be. One guy moves all in, and the other calls. Dude had poket Aces… Turn 2d, and river 3d… So needed the flush to beat the rockets and didn’t hit it… I will be there again on the 3rd…

I wanted to but this Saturday was a family birthday and parents were in town.

Looking forward to it and getting back into local games.

When is the next one?

This is by far the most organized home game you’ll ever experience. Everybody that plays poker that goes once…goes back every time.

Oct 3rd
