its about ~1-2 lbs savings… which isnt that much in the overall things, but its ~ 50% weight savings on the frame i guess…
but the comfort of the CF/Alum frame is night and day… alum frames ride like trucks… my current frame has a CF front fork and rear seat stays, but still sucks to commute on.
I rode a CF frame of a friend of mine last week and i really liked it
meh. i rode my 40lb 1970s road bike that’s permanently stuck in the tallest gear for about 40 miles the other day… It wasn’t really a big deal…

I just picked up an old Ross frame to build a fixed gear out of. I just really got into riding at the the beginning of this summer. I don’t have any pics of the actual bike but this is pretty much what it looks like except it is chrome.
I just bought it for the frame. I have a friend who works at a bike shop where i can get components for cheap sometimes even free. I think i am going to pain the frame white and try to go with black components on that.
As for my road bike i have a late 80’s chromoly Univega. 12 speed with 27 inch wheels. It has a Shimano 600 groupset and dia-compe brakes. I guess it was fairly light for it’s day. Extremely heavy for today’s standards but i like it nonetheless. It is also the biggest frame i have ever seen. Check it out. I definitely need a new saddle though.
As for riding into work it’s not so bad as long as it’s not too hot out. I just rode in today actually. I only work about 4-4.5 miles from my home.Sometimes i just bring an extra shirt.

i would imagine there has been a huge increase in the amount of people riding bikes. I wouldnt tag it ‘bandwagon’. with gas costs what they are and more people aware of how f-ing fat everyone is, fitness and gas saving has started to gain popularity…
