Official road bicycling thread?

Saw a running, weight loss, & workout threads, a whole FGGT homeowners forum for us lawn mowing equity building fools so here’s a road bicycle thread. Got up before half of the forum was able to blow less than 2x the legal limit at 6am and went to EA to hopefully not get scammed and “put in”. Riding out of West Seneca sucks, so I usually meat with Quattro Krant in Eden on his post race recovery rides and listen to him bitch about pink wheels, confer on leg shaving techniques (up vs. down) and ways to combat bikini bumps. Then after applying chamois butter to each other I chase after him like a fledgling noob. But today he was whining about not feeling so fresh down below so I drove on solo, me against the world. Started out of the EA lot by Wireless Zone where I got for all my Verizon wireless needs (shameless plug for GeeHee) dropped down behind the abandoned Pizza Slut and drove on up parallel to Center St, cut over almost up to the EA highschool and continued to enjoy the shade and early morning coolness as I covered about 900 verticle feet up to 17XXft alt over 10 miles up to the highest point in erie county passing my old house where I grew up. Went from there all the way to Crump, cut over around to Sprague Brook park and did a lap or so, and climbed up around the backside to the creepy camping grounds and saw what there was to see for scenery. Checked out Kissing bridge heading back north for some wussy false flats and a few piddly climbs trying to keep the rpms up and quit the low cadence habits than have been giving me knee issues. :sniffle: (pussy…) Stopped in Colden, snapped a few pics of the creek, wtf why not? I needed to grab a drink and the sun was just starting to feel warm in the cool valley. Finished off the ride strong on Jewett Holmwood (sp?) up the few tame climbs out of the saddle. All in all a good ride, stretched out in the grass which was in the shade where I parked (dumb luck) and came home. Here’s some pics, who else on here isn’t afraid to admit they ride a road bike? I just picked up a Ridley Icarus this spring after a year and a half of spin class @ Golds. Anyways, here’s the couple pics I snapped on my ride from the bridge in the Glenwood/Colden Valley.

While I don’t ride as much as I would like to I still love riding. My new to me bike is actually a 1983 gitane tour de France which is the nicest most comfortable bike I have ever owned.

Give me a call when you want to go for a ride. I am always down.

Holy fuck you went far lol. Good read
i don’t ride though

You grew up near me? I didn’t even know that.
I have a gas powered bicycle, I will go with you next time. lol

I departed out of Chestnut Ridge Park and decided to visit my Father out in Angola. 46 miles round trip in about 2:30. Mostly flat with some small out of saddle climbs here and there.

I’m down to ride whenever I am around. Sundays and most Saturdays are great for me.

Wish I would have been able to head out yesterday but I ate SO much at my cousins party on Sunday that I woke up with a HORRIBLE case of heartburn. I didn’t start to feel good until around noon, and by then I had to head out with the woman to Chautauqua Lake. Nice ride Spam and Jager

Nice ride, hopefully picking up my “road bike” in the near future.

Most probably know, but the Tour de France is on stage 4 already. A stage almost everyday for the next 3 weeks. 8am on Versus for the live action and 8pm for the replay.

its something I want to get into, my buddy’s parents were about to throw away a couple of old ass road bikes and we decided to save them…we still have to go over them to make sure they are roadworthy after being stored so long, but its something I would like to get into so I can replace my cardio routine in the gym for something more scenic and enjoyable.

Talk to Tom (Gus) if they need to be tuned up.

Those are both pretty decent rides.

Oldie but a goodie, lugged steel is the best way to do it weight aside, steel is real.

All ready to go and out of the basement?

Grew up on the corner of center and partridge @ the Ranch before we sold it and they started piling up rusty stuff like a junk yard in the front yard sadly…

been following it a little when I get a chance… few minutes here and few minutes there. I usually get to watch the break-away fail miserably as the peleton overtakes and runs a rape train on them just after the 20k mark.

which gym? If they have an indoor cycling/spin program available, get into that, it’ll make getting started on the road much more enjoyable.

Oh yeah maybe I knew that.(?) The new owner has not kept it very well have they?

They’re good people, just not as tidy as we were. They take fantastic care of the horses and are a SPCA foster home for the nut job across the street from you and her horses… My mother still lives in the house on the corner with my step dad & is holding the mortgage as there was no other option in the sale of a farm and has her horses boarded in the barn still as part of the deal. Colden trailriders are storing a bunch of stuff on the property like the old groomers after parting ways with Colden Lakes and they’re into the 4cyl racing action at Holland speedway that are parked out front in all their glory.

Maybe I did need some Vagasil for Monday morning, whatever. I got out today for a nice 51 mile ride. Road from my house in Eden and did 10 miles before picking up a tri buddy in Hamburg and then we road 391 South to Sharp Rd, took Sharp to 240, 240 South to 39 West into Springville. We then took 39W out of Springville to Belscher, Belscher to Concord, Concord to Trevett, Trevett to Wagner, went our seperate ways as I went up and over Wagner to New Oregon back to 75N up E. Church back to Eden.

Here is a map of one of my favorite short rides. Nice mix of flats, mild climbing, and some 40+ mph downhill. Round trip is 20 miles and takes about an hour.

Total climb: 1007ft
Total descent: 1001ft

Sunday, July 10th, I’m free til around 1ish… planning to put in around 7am, gotta be in Angola off the 90 around 1pm to teach. Who’s in? Looking to keep my legs under me, dealing with VMO & patella instability issues after Ride for Roswell as all the tendons are inflamed in my knees and I’m limping on and off so I’m not blasting up any serious climbs for a bit, but if you don’t mind waiting, I’ll get there eventually.

Gonna start using that site some, I like Center, used to climb it out of EA back home when I was a kid, I like the climb out of EA on Mill road vs. the first part of Center though, nicer view. How’s rt 16 for shoulder conditions? Grover is cool for ups and downs though, shredd that on the supermoto sometimes covering some ground. Center to crump, around Sprague, back 240/Davis to Jewett is around 32mi.

  • Shoulder of 16 is fine. Not on it that long anyways.

  • Grover might be one of the best riding roads in WNY.

  • I’m in for Sunday.

Here is a map of the ride that Spam and I did on Sunday morning.

Total Distance: 32 miles
Total Time: 1:54
Climbing: 968 ft.
