Well, I figured I would start a thread about what is and will be going on with my turbo setup over the next few months, since I’m sure there are a few people out there who might be interested in knowing more about this and perhaps even more about turbo’s in general. Well as I’m sure most of you know I have decided that my Spec has been good enough to me that I have decided to pamper it with a turbo over christmas, and I will be puting in a Powertech Imports Stage III turbo into my little beast (or soon to be :E ). Anyhow after disussing things with various people I have decided I’m going to upgrade from a T3/T4 turbo to either a GT30R or a GT3071R Turbo instead, the benefit in going with this larger turbo over the T3/T4 is that if I ever do any internal work to my engine (sleeved head, lower compression pistons, etc) the turbo kit will not need any upgrading the whole setup will already be able to push the spec well into the 400hp range (as Stephen is already planing on doing, bastard, j/k), plus you also end up with a ball bearing turbo. The difference between the GT30R and the GT3071R (besides cost) is that the GT3071R is a bit newer technology and has a bit of a smaller turbine, so I will probably end up going with that, if I’m going to do this I’m going to do it right.
Nice! Might as well get it while you can!
As a footnote to this, I may be starting to piece together a homebuilt kit with Mike (Variable on here) - we shall see.
Yeah, I am also going to upgrade from the Bosch BOV and put in a HKS SSQV BOV. I am also going to put in a TurboXS High Performance Dual Stage Boost Controller.
WHAT THE FUCK!!!
When I just read this I almost started to cry, and I think that I might after I talk to Jamie tomorrow.

Well enjoy reading that boys, cause we just lost the biggest asset the community had, IMHO.
Oh, I thought you had read that already.
If you read a little further in the thread, Jamie says that they’re going to keep selling the PARTS to make the kits, just not the kits themselves. You should be able to buy the intercoolers, piping kits, and fuel system mods seperately. You’d just need a manifold and you’d be good to go.
And yes, it does indeed suck - but read the rest of the thread - they aren’t giving up on the Spec V. Stephen can tell you about their b15 drag racer…
Well that puts a damper on a turbo plan…
What? Why? What is so special about their kit that you couldn’t just piece one together yourself?
Fuel system, manifold, turbo, oil/coolant lines, fab up a downpipe, intercooler piping, mount an intercooler, some sort of engine management, done! lol.
Nick, if you need a hand with it, heck, I live close enough to help
Just find out what was all included in the kit, and piece it together. You may even save money.
The main reason you couldn’t do it is because you’d have to fabricate all the hardlines for the entire system - you couldn’t buy them from Jamie before to my knowledge.
Now that he’s selling the piping kits seperately, and I know you can get fuel system bits from him, it’s more reasonable to actually piece a system together. I may just do it after all.
What do you mean by hardlines? Like the oil and coolant lines? You can build those at Mopac or Red-L’s with stainless braided lines, no problem. Or do you mean intercooler piping? Cause you could easiliy build those as well with mandrel pieces and what not. I built my piping on my own, works just fine and I’m boosting almost 20psi! Or do you mean fuel lines, which you can also fab up at mopac or red-l’s; which I also did on my own.
I don’t see it as a very complicated project, just time consuming with all the planning and layout. Just need to plan it out in advance.
I love doing this kind of stuff, so like I said, if anyone needs a hand with building a turbo system, I can help 'em out, no problems.
By hardlines I was referring to the I/C piping - the Spec didn’t have a full on set for sale before - Jamie is offering the I/C piping for $255 USD, which really isn’t a bad deal considering the engineering time you’d put into them. I’d love to build one - but I’m not sure I could justify the cash just yet.
That said, we could always pour our efforts into the race car - the turbo system for that doesn’t have to be pretty, it just has to work.
Well, I guess we’ll just have to see
Well you just volunteered yourself to help with my FMIC piping!

No problem. Just supply pizza
