I think it’s fine now, the OT stuff is funny and doesn’t detract from the “real” stuff, it IS the real stuff too in it’s own right. I’m not against long/permabans if someone’s a total douche / physical threatens someone (not in a kidding “I’ll f-- you up” sort of way) etc, but I’m also not for creating a Nazi state where nobody can have fun.
This is a car forum, and there are some regular users of the Gen Auto sections. There should be more, but its relative to the time of year, and day/night crew.
This is a “local” forum, there is always going to be alot of OT & Social based BS, its like this on every local board I’ve ever been on.
Also, it’s winter…
Realistically, 50/50. I wouldn’t go so far as to say ZERO permas… but close.
Permaban speedped and stupid fucks just looking to cause drama and openly admit it.
Banning newman for going OT in a gen auto post because Rick is a nazi mod…is lame…Newman adds more useful car tech then Rick ever has.
It’s a local forum you will always have OT to some level.
I would also like to see less noob bashing people join up here and automatically get flammed and this really hurts our member base. People don’t always fit the model that NYSpeed members seem to demand out of way they mod cars…Get over it everyone started somewhere.
This site doesn’t need a restructuring of the forums, removal of OT or any of that. I’d personally like to see more focus on the automotive side of things, but that isn’t even the root cause of the issues that have come up recently.
There is an obvious disconnect between the moderators of this site and the members. All of these issues; Beck, Classifieds, etc. stem from the simple fact that the members and the mods “live in different worlds” so-to-speak.
I’m not going to vote in the poll because it doesn’t work to solve anything or address this issue.
I agree with dstar. Doesn’t everyone remember UBRF or the first 1.5 years of NYSpeed when everyone would come together and hang out under common ground, at O or other hang out spots?
With a larger forum and more anonymity and disconnects between members, it’s obvious things will feel less like home.
This forum needs OT, not many autosports / meets happen in the winter, so there isn’t much to talk about that is car related, minus the occasional build thread / new car review.
Furthermore the lack of angry F-body threads kinda ruins things for me.
I personally liked it the way it used to be a few months ago, including the classifieds. Aside from that, maybe a little more moderation to keep the attention whores in check as that seems to fuel the most drama. Other than that, I have no complaints. Every forum on NYSpeed has it’s place. You can only talk cars so much.
I also agree to maybe limit topics that n00bs can post in, until they reach a certain amount of posts or maybe even “REP” given by mods only. The FS: forum was perfectly fine the way it was IMO and didn’t really need the drastic change that it got, however I’m not behind the scenes so whatever… I just choose not to use it.
It would be nice to get trader feedback back on board, and maybe limit the amount of replies a member can post in a single thread, depending on feedback status. Either that, or get another moderator on board who’s willing to deal with moderating the classifieds only.
I didn’t vote, because the choices didn’t really convey my opinion
I vote middle of the road. In my opinion this place isn’t majorly fucked and thus doesn’t need major changes. Major changes to existing organizations often result in major failures. Hell look at the classifieds. In my opinion it is way better now, but holy fucking fallout batman… :lolham:
I can see the value with doing away with permabans. It would give the major fuckups a fresh chance every year (?). But then again, how many chances do people deserve?
One thing I will be doing is my best to maintain the integrity of the automotive forums on here. The only thing I’ve done as a mod so far is lock a thread in gen auto that was made by a noobie to the hobby that turned into physical threats. Fuck. That. I will not tolerate people shitting on new guys. I’ve seen an awful lot of douche-baggery by arrogant “OG’s” that no doubt soured new people to the hobby.
I see NYSpeed as a place for people with a common interest in all things automotive to come together and shoot the bull, bench race, teach, learn, etc.
Shitting on noobs happens. It’s still going to happen to some degree. It’s a testosterone fueled forum, and even though the mods are older and wiser, it doesn’t mean the atmosphere of the forum is going to change from that of a college aged meathead. I’ll still likely call noobs some names as the days go on. :eekdance:
Well sure. I hope I didn’t come across as meaning “I will some down with the hammer of thor on anyone who dares say anything negative! Rahr!”
I just mean that this place should encourage new people to take up the hobby. If I see someone being ridiculed and driven away I’ll do something. When in doubt I will err on the side of non-action. :gotme:
Hopefully you guys know me well enough to know that I’m not going to turn into some power hungry banstick wielding khmer rouge sich heil nazi moderator.
that is a broad generalization. this is a disconnection with the younger crowd, but not all the users are young.
i’m 30, and don’t hang out with teens and early twenty somethings in parking lots. a good portion of the active, and automotive knowledgeable members are in the same boat.
