Pwn to Own, Ubuntu could not be cracked

That is factually incorrect FUD and BS (in regards to people writing viruses are linux users).

It is true that Windows is a far bigger moving target for the home end user though.

Considering most viruses are written in VB I would have to agree

Keep in mind Ubuntu by default (Desktop config) is not allow any of the older insercure services in, they are all turned off… rpc.statd. rpcbind, sendmail… etc

It is amazing how many Linux distros still run sendmail. Don’t even get me start on HP-UX, AIX and Solaris… all still run telnet, rlogin, remshd…etc

My general though is the system is only as secure as the person who admins it.

Ubuntu is a awesome distro since it plays to the lowest common denominator of user and has all crap turned by default.

just turn off it’s RSS handling

agreed… while some come more secure than others OOTB, the user is certainly a majority of the problem.

true and not true. But absolutely, a poorly administered linux box can certainly be less secure than a well administered windows box.

Without a doubt. I think more and more businesses will be looking into Apache servers due to their light system requirements and better speeds. I personally had noticed a huge speed increase from switching from windows Web hosting to linux web hosting. Not to mention the ability to use PHP over ASP.

Although it’s a growing OS among businesses it is still dwarfed by Windows.

I don’t think that you really understand the enterprise tech industry. There are a lot more devices running linux based OSes than you think.

Think embedded systems.

A lot of large web hosting companies run Apache…not a giant news flash…

I’m well aware.

Yes, true, I was referring more towards the server sense though. I think the PS3 uses linux and possibly iPods. I’m not really sure maybe you know?

I did read that the old school iPod nanos could be modded with linux so they could play video’s as well.

Huh surprised the Mac went first, though I wouldn’t even consider an air a real Mac, much less a real computer…

I’m not surprised it happened through safari, safari is one of the few Mac programs I dislike, I always immediately switch to Firefox or Google Chrome as soon as I boot up a fresh computer, regardless of make or OS

dude why are you reposting shit from March 2008 in 2 threads so far? Is your RSS feed delayed by 10 months?

PS3 is indeed Linux based. I assume the ipod is running the Darwin BSD kernel.

hah, I never even realized it with the Viper thread. It was news to me!

This article is a bit old, but it is still very much applicable. Neither of the 3 have had THAT many changes/bug fixes since the article was written, that would make the information obsolete.

Not to mention, this thread has stayed pretty calm, unlike that Viper shit-show.

How is a Mac Air not a real computer?

The only reason I wouldn’t “consider it a real mac” is because it technical doesn’t fit Apples requirements for leopard…

You can buy a DVD drive for it and the remote drive mapping works great.

Have you ever used one?

hah
