Question: Who here has sold a car on Autotrader?

How’d it go?

People who have sold cars recently what was your best avenue for exposure?

I have some serious gripes about Autotrader but i’ll wait for some responses.

Went fine. Paid for a photo ad, had a nice professional looking listing, got it sold for my asking price.

Craigslist is nice but until they get a radius search that works right through craigslist.org I think autotrader will always be better for selling a vehicle.

My ad seems very clean, although i could edit down some of the type… and my asking price is SPOT on… and so far I have gotten 5 fucking calls from companies that can “assist in selling my car.”

5 FUCKING SALES CALLS!! Did you experience any of this hoopla?

I sold my evo on autotrader… it went perfectly and I had no sales calls.

:word: I did the samething, 3 calls, 1 offer, right on target, sold in 3 weeks

Contact autotrader

Nope. Got a couple nigerian scammer emails, one of which I played along with just for personal amusement hoping to get a cool fake check and cost the scammer some international shipping.

Link to ad? You have to remember:

  1. It’s Christmas time, so people have no money.
  2. The economy sucks, so people have no money.
  3. The state just added a bunch of new taxes/fees, so people have no money.
  4. Far more people buy cars in the spring than at the start of winter.

So you’ve got a lot working against you right now.

Sold three cars on autotrader. All sales went great but did get sales calls on the last one.

sell the rx7?

It’s in the garage.

We sell lots of cars on Autotrader… the key is to make sure your price is lower than the rest and there are 20+ pictures of the car plus pics of both sets of keys, owners manual, spare tire and any accessories you added.

other than that most of what these guys said are correct, just might take a couple weeks.

Sold multiple vehicles on Autotrader, but I always et people calling me asking if I want to list it in their magazine or some nonsense.

I usually get my asking price or very close to it too, where as craigslist I always get lowballs.

ive had more luck with specific forums/Ebay (to generate interest)

i listed my audi on auto trader only to sell it through nyspeed… although i did get a COUPLE of calls on auto trader, most were sales calls/ scammers…

craigslist was craigslist… a lot of tire kickers… nothing more

Word.

JayS, believe me I know it’s the wrong time of year, and as you may know i’m not even that serious about selling it… but the fact is I have gotten nothing but sales calls… literally… 5 sales calls in the past week and a half… and that’s all. I’m seriously considering contacting autotrader.

my idiot brother paid one of those sales compaines $500 to help him sell his truck. I convinced him to call his cc company and say it was fraudulent or something, they credited him back in full.

I Sold my fbod on autotrader, and i believe i got my asking price. there’s always someone out there willing to pay, and your car is probably exactly what someone else wants

i believe i had over 15pics, and paid for the website thing, and ads in the magazine w/ a picture. I had the car on here for over 3 months, and on craigslist for the same amount of time. I put it up on autotrader and it sold in roughly 2 weeks

I Didnt list my phone number, just my email, but i did get a few emails about people trying to help me sell my car, and some other scam that i made a thread about lol

I Would list it there if you’re serious about selling it

listed the civic i had on here and had serious buyer in about 2 weeks with no bogus phone calls…

The first call I got on my GTO was within 2 weeks I want to say and that guy bought it. Also, after I sold it I must have gotten 5 more calls on it even after I emailed autotrader numerous times to end the ad or ended it myself, can’t remember how you are supposed to end an ad there. Also, that was where I ended up selling my sisters car through after I gave up on all the fucktards from Craigslist. I have a car on craigslist now and I keep getting these fucking emails about making money by working for Google putting links online.

Sold my dads auto MKIV TT Supra in less then a day, after the ad. Motor and tranny were beat to death by my uncle. Got more then the asking price, cause we had like 20+ people calling right after the post and this guy in Philly would die just to have the car.

The ad wasn’t fancy, just a couple pics and the car was mostly stock, plus it was a MKIV lol.
