drivers usually make minimum wage or less, THEN we have to pay $2.20+ a gallon to fill our cars (I drove 55k miles last year).
if everyone thought like you, and i got $1.50 per delivery, plus my whole $5/hr, I’d make $48 on a modest night… minus the taxes and gas I use (not even including my (sometimes twice) monthly oil change), I’d be WAAAAY under minimum wage.
IMO, a good guideline for tipping on food delivery is the cost of a gallon of 87 octane, or 20%, whichever is HIGHER.
i delivered pizza for years. I usually dont tip over $2. Fuck em. Most of them are pieces of shit. If they showed up on time, were nice and courteous, didnt always forget something, and they didnt already charge a dollar delivery charge, they MIGHT get more. $2 is fair, depending on how far you are from the place. Maybe an extra buck or two if the weather is nasty.
