When I bought my car I had my father co-sign so his name and my name are currently on the title. Does anyone know what we need to do so that I can drop him from the title? The car is completely paid off and I am hopefully moving out of state soon. Thanks
Get the lien release…apply for a new title with just your name
The lien has already been released, i am mostly wondering if we will A) need to go to the DMV together to get his name dropped. B) He can go in himself. or C) I can go in myself.
dmv will need a copy of the lein release to remove it from the title
Call the dmv. You most likely have to both sign the title as the seller, you sign the title as the buyer, and bring a clear copy of his license with you to the dmv. Then they can issue a new title in your name.

why can’t you just have him sign the title today and write a notarized letter to you saying he releases all interest in the car to you. That should cover any scenario that comes up.
