RB20 Transmission Options/Upgrades

Yea, I know what a dog box is. Driven them once or twice. Bad ass tranny’s.

Just wasn’t sure where to get a half decent one.

I dunno what the hell I’m a do. LoL

 Check PPG website, I know that HKS and OS Giken make them too I believe. Or you could try to get a Nismo 6 spd and put the RB bell housing on it.

Someone cant shift, there is no reason to be breaking so many trannys

unfortunately, nismo, OSgiken, nor HKS made rb20 tranny guts. only rb26.

so ur options:
#1. mayb the rb25 thing… (best ask ppl on gtrc…)
#2. or try umm… not slamming gears. (best… cheapest …most logical answer)

i think everyone agrees here on #2

Ahh forgot about that and Shawn Nismo made a 6 speed SR tranny. He could swap over the RB bell housing and use it, it wont fit 100% but will be a HELL of a lot more durable.

Indeed nismo does. …but it wont work.
lol dont try and argue this one either.

this guy either has to learn to drive.
or keep buying rb20 trannys.

And yes rb25 tranny is a direct bolt on.
but u need a GTR/rb26 tranny speed sensor
and depending if its a yoke swap or full tranny swap, depends if u need to change ur driveshaft.

/thread

It will fit if he cuts a big fucking whole in his tranny tunnel. But I agree, no need to slam it into gear on the street.

NO IT WONT!!! the bolt pattern is different.

So you’re saying if you bolt on an RB20 bellhousing to the SR tranny guts it is different? Then tell me how people in the states bolt on a RB20 bellhousing to KA and SR trannies and use them. Only thing is the tranny is a bit longer.

k my bad, more reshearch, u might be able to swap the guts, (looking for proof)

hmmm (reshearching)…(wat the OP should have done)…lol

k! so
r34 rb25 Neo tranny will also bolt up! (best option in terms of performace)

and also… lol cant find anything about sr guts in rb bellhousing… but from what i heard. input shaft and shift forks/synchros are the same, and gearing is pretty close too…(stock sr guts…not nismo(didnt look that up)

but for the abuse your putting down… i seriously dont think a rb25 tranny will even suffice… (though they are very durable)

i say. get an automatic!

Not even an auto go full on dogbox as I said lmao. Other than that go USDM but itll need a SHIT load of work. Or as said before go with a 7MGTE tranny and get a one off bellhousing.

Wow. So much hate.

I don’t know how to drive. Damn. Some people blow turbos, motors, shred up tires, burn out clutches, destroy brakes…I kill transmissions. Why hate? I’m a tech. I see this shit all the time. What the fuck do you expect when you drive a car day in and day out? Decently hard as well. All I have ever owned and driven were USDM cars/trucks. First jap car. Starting to regret it completely. The JDM lands apparent “bullet proof” rear ends in the 240’s and the RB series motors. Please.
Did you guys ever think that maybe you don’t know how to drive? I apologizing for driving MY car as hard as I want to drive MY car. Sorry for smashing MY tranny. I did not start this thread for fucking criticism.

Simple advice is all I’m looking for. I fucking researched. The net is full of shit. And well, you know, since I am a part of this great community. Why not fucking ask here and get a much more solid founded answer?
Nothing good to say? GTFO.

So, No I do not drive my car softly. I do not by any means drive my car like you do (apparently) I do not track my car. I drag race. Thats it.

So please. Tell me what fucking transmission will hold an RB on a solid strip of rubber on slicks with a decent launch? Who was it that destroyed their input shaft on their SR? But, yes, your right. I do NOT know how to drive.

No problem. Close this fuckin thread. Pathetic.

Dude, you’re the only person I’ve read about online that is shattering transmissions like this. You even said yourself that you’ve shredded domestic trannies too… So are you saying that because you abuse the hell out of your car and it breaks it must be shit?

Everyone on here seems to agree you are shifting your car improperly. Whether it’s cause you’re trying to take the shift lever off by yanking it so hard, or not clutching all the way between shifts, or whatever it is your doing… Lots of people are running a lot more power than you through the same transmission, and never having an issue.

Martino said it too, he had his in hard dirty shiftlocks and never broke anything. If you’re a tech, you should know that shift forks are only really under extreme load when you’re shifting and they’re pushing things around. You should also then know, if you’re breaking shit, that you must be doing something wrong.

No matter how durable you try and build this thing, if you’re using it wrong it’ll still break. Just because you don’t like the answer of “Fix your driving habits” doesn’t mean it’s the wrong answer. Try getting rid of the pissy attitude and look at things realistically for a second.

transmission.

Or learn to shift, I drove my Neo RB25 powered coupe with an RB20 tranny for the few months I had it with zero transmission problems and I had it for a similar purpose as you, beat the living shit out of and go in a straight line. I drag race also.

That is the answer for your price range, I don’t know why you’re freaking out… it’s already been said.

Constant hostility. Sheesh.

I already stated I drive the shit out of my car. Can we get over this now?

If you do, then expect shit to break.

RB25 is about the strongest alternative you’ll find that will bolt up.

Either spend the money, like you suggested, and get your shift forks machined out of some crazy strong material, or start collecting RB trannies…

I don’t see this thread getting any more productive… I think all your options have been posted.

/no hostility intended.

Understood.

I have decided to grab two RB20 transmission. Throw one in. Tear the other apart and CNC everything.

Thanks

No prob. Let us know how it turns out, I think you’ll be the first person on this forum with a custom machined tranny.

Well. The only dilemma I can think of. Well, obviously I’m gonna get shift forks made first. Yet, what is the next weakest link in these tranny’s? I’ll probably do the input shaft and counter shaft as well.

Don’t wanna start goin insane and doing every gear, sprocket and syncro.

My post wasn’t intended to be hostile, more-so in frustration with reading this repetitive thread.
