I have now destroyed 2 RB20 transmissions within 2 months. I am looking into an upgrade. Possibly a stronger clutch as well. Something that disengages/engages much quicker for me.
Now, I have heard and read so many different stories about RB,VG,SR,KA trannies. I have proved that a KA trans or an SR will not work with an RB20 in an S13 chassis.
Basically I am asking;
What transmission fits my S13 with an RB20 other than the RB20 transmission. Stronger. Good ratios. Keeps my 1-piece aluminum shaft, etc etc.
Or, does any body here know someone that can beef up my RB tranny for a half decent price. (I don’t mean cheap, cause I’m far from that, just don’t want to hear 1,000-1,500)
Honestly. I don’t think I drive my car that hard. Yet, everyone tells me to chill the fuck out.
When I smash a gear, I fucking smash a gear. Last tranny was the center shift fork (3/4) snapped in two.
Now, this one…not exactly sure. Think I may of upset a gear set. 1st wobbles and pops out with a sudden blip of the throttle. Shifting, well. It’s not good lol. Still drivable.
Dude, I don’t wanna sound rude, but if you’re smashing that many transmissions I’d look at how you’re driving. You clearly don’t think you’re driving that hard, but you clearly are…
These guys are right, there are a lot of people who drive their cars hard and track the hell out of them who aren’t dropping trannies that quick. I’ve never killed a transmission in my life, and I drive aggressively. When I shift, I shift fast.
Otherwise you might have to look at an aftermarket gearset from OSGiken or Quaiffe or something.
Not rude at all bro. That’s what I am looking for. Input and suggestions. I obviously know the problem is me. Yet, that will never change (driving habbits)
I have no mercy for mechanical things. It’s either it works, or it don’t. If I go to hit a gear. I don’t care what happens that bitch is going in.
Whats the point of being gentle to your car? No fun in that.
This aftermarket shit…complete tranny? or just parts? How comparable? How strong?
The aftermarket stuff is a gearset, new guts, so you still use the same casing.
Are you using a short throw? If you’re jamming it hard like that, they’re known for being a bit vague and you may be bashing things into each other as you try to find a gear. Maybe try a stock shifter too, longer throw, but a bit more accurate.
if you want stronger go RB25 tranny… youll have to get your driveshaft re done or sell it and get a mackinney one but a RB25 tranny is a lot stronger and will bolt right up… I have a rb20 in my can… I drive it hard, still no problems with it… tho I do have a second tranny just in case
:lol: by dogbox I mean a sequential tranny. I know PPG makes itThey’re straight cut gears though with no synchros so you need to double clutch on every down shift, but don’t need to clutch in on upshifts. It’s what rally cars and some drift cars use.
